Dear Glenn Beck Fans...

Post by Woodruff »

Can you explain this? I can't (though I'm certainly no fan):
http://www.politicususa.com/en/glenn-be ... tler-youth
...I prefer a man who will burn the flag and then wrap himself in the Constitution to a man who will burn the Constitution and then wrap himself in the flag.

controversial comments maintain attention - isn't that the media's main role?

All you had to do was put "Glenn Beck." As a conservative myself, the guy is a bona fide nut job and gives rational people a bad name.
"Eh, whatever."

Yeah I heard him when he said it. He only compared it that it was a "political party camp" and he added that there is no way in hell he will ever send his children to "Republican camp".

OchoCino might want to tackle this one.

But he had his own political summer camp for kids - Something about teaching kids Free market economics and liberty - That sounds like a political camp for kids to me.

Also, who the f*ck is Ochocinco and why do we need to hear what he thinks about Beck's book?

You probably wouldn't understand. But I'll attempt to explain it, somehow.

The camp in question there in Norway is the Worker's Youth League. It's a political indoctrination camp of the type that would never be allowed to operate in the United States. At least not with Taxpayer dollars at any rate.

How Norway wants to run things is on them, and I could care less.

The AUF camp is funded by the Norwegian government, of which the current PM is affiliated with and once was a leading figure in the AUF. It's the equivalent of Barrack Obama using government funds to set up "Obama camps" for children and young adults. That sort of thing would not stand in the US, as you should be well aware.

The Worker's Youth League camp teaches the attendees about party doctrine and political issues for the benefit of the party politic.

The Hitler Youth league did the same thing, just was teaching the attendees to be good little Nazi's.

The difference between the Hitler Youth and the Worker's Youth League is that attendance to Hitler Youth camps was mandatory. I don't think attendance is mandatory for the AUF camp. If it was, that would be even worse.

In the US if some private citizen wants to set up their own political camp using their own money to do so, then more power to them.

But I would think most Americans would be opposed to such a camp being set up and funded by the Federal Government.....
Since the current PM, Stoltenberg, was a leader of the AUF between 1985-1989, it's kind of a conflict of interest of the sort that would be highly suspect in the United States and most would be uneasy at the very least with such a camp if, say, the current President had once been a leader of the organization that ran the camp.

Does the Worker's Youth League camp teach the young people to be hate filled evil doers? I have no idea. I would hope not.
Does the Worker's Youth League camp indoctrinate the young people attending into the party of the current incumbent of the government? Absolutely.

As a private citizen why can't he open a camp like that? So long as he is using his own funds, not Taxpayer funds, and attendance isn't mandatory, there is nothing wrong with that.

It's something else all together if Glenn Beck was an actual political leader with actual power running such a camp using public funds to finance the operation. Then you get into a whole other can of worms. True political indoctrination.

LOL! Not laughing at you radiojake, but as an Australian it makes perfect sense to ask why it would even matter. To Americans, this Ochocinco guy is actually Chad Johnson. He's an American football player, and is known for being eccentric. I'm not sure what it's like down under, but sports figures here almost never become vocal about their political beliefs until after they've retired. The only thing which would make it more perfect is if Terrell Owens got involved and shared his opinions.

Nobody's saying he can't run a camp. The point is that he's decrying a politically-oriented camp as being akin to "Hitler's Youth" while RUNNING ONE OF HIS OWN.

And if you believe that "true political indoctrination" can only take place if an actual political leader with actual power was running the camp using public funds to finance the operation, I'm afraid you're not thinking it through very carefully.

You definitely don't understand, so I'll explain to you.

The camp in question there in Norway is the Worker's Youth League. It is just a youth wing of a political party, just like pretty much every political party in Europe (this one just happens to be *gasp* that of a communist party). This kind of group certainly does exist in the United States, for example the Young Republicans organization and the Young Democrats of America organization. You just don't agree with communist politics, so you call it indoctrination.

You Americans are crazy - So a privately funded camp that preaches free market economics is ok but a government funded camp is not? What is the difference? Both are indocrinating to a position conceived by the organiser(s) of the camps. Why do you guys trust private enterprise so much more than government?

I have a distrust of government, but I also distrust large corporations that have loads of money behind them (hmm.. I wonder what agendas multi-millionaire capitalists are trying to push?)

The Young Republican organization receives NO FEDERAL FUNDS. All their money comes from private donations and fund raising. The taxpayer is not footing the bill.

If they received money from the government to run the organization, like the Worker's Youth League does, then we have an entirely different situation.

How can you not see the difference?

Ah yes - Well Australian atheletes are definately not making any sort of political statements either - Infact, sometimes I wonder why they even interview footballers at all - They are full of boring cliches that I've heard a thousand times before.

Infact, I remember one footballer (though I can not think of who it was) who explicitly said 'Politics is for politicians, we play football' or something to that extent - It pissed me off because politics is definately NOT in the exclusive domain of politicians, it should be for everyone

How do you SEE a difference? Where the money comes from has no impact on what is done at the camps, which IS indoctrination.

A privately funded camp that preaches communism is just fine as well. It doesn't matter what political ideology a private organization preaches, just so long as they aren't using taxpayer funds.

That is the key. If a millionare wants to run his own little camp to teach little kiddies to be good little capitalists then so be it. Who cares?

But if the Federal Government is running camps to bring young people into the current incumbents party politic using taxpayer funds, that is an outrage and a gigantic conflict of interest.

Because none of the other youth leagues in Norway get taxpayer money? Just that one?

I'd also like to correct my statement. It is not a communist party, but a democratic socialist one.

Where the money comes from makes all the difference. The taxpayer has no choice, he must pay taxes.

For a private organization to get funds they must convince people to buy into it of their own free will. So be it.

The Ku Klux Klan is a private organization. How would you feel if they received taxpayer money to run "Hate Blacky" camps?

From the American point of view no political youth camp should receive any taxpayer money from the Federal Government.

What European countries do is their own business, I'm only explaining it from the American point of view is all. There is no "right" or "wrong", there just "is" and what "isn't" between the two societies.

No,

Privately funded=private
Government funded=government endorsed

It is not the government's role in the United States to promote one political party over another. Especially using taxpayer funds to do so.

Look, respond to my question-

The Ku Klux Klan is a private organization that will surely indoctrinate attendees into their particular point of view. How would you feel if they received Taxpayer funds to run such endeavors?

Answer that honestly and then maybe you'll start to understand.
