Republicans and Democrats

Post by Woodruff »

Republicans are extremely adept at positioning themselves as the easy choice for uninformed people, as most people don't give a shit about politics.

Democrats on the other hand, I don't know what the f*ck they're doing. And all signs would point to "Neither do they".

Republicans do that because it's natural for their position. They're not the ones asking you to commit money from your pocket to help other people.

So the Democratic Party is made up of only informed people? What is the criteria for being an informed person?

It's the uninformed people that fall for the government-freebies pitch that is only thrown by Democrats.

It is my personal opinion that most Republicans vote against their own self-interest by voting for policies that will not help them. It seems to me that most people who vote "straight Republican" who are not already wealthy are voting "for when I become wealthy"...in other words, they're voting for the situation they HOPE to be in, not voting for the situation they ARE in.

We have all been blindsided for some time. It used to be that the "powers behind" actually worked for things that generally benefitted us, but I think we are now too far down the road to either Big Brother or Brave New World. I fear my children will see the end of a truly free US.

The sad part is, that while all these folks are bickering here, China and the Mideast are each slowly building and moving into position to take over from the corporations here. So, they will lose, and we will lose because the corporations will have already destroyed the few stops we have had. I mean, I know corporations became people a long time ago, but the full power of that has only been lately realized. I am not sure if past leaders actually had a conscience, were afraid to alert people too early or simply did not understand what power they had available (probably were afraid of other corporations, to be honest).

Anyway... we have to stay positive, because giving up is never an answer. Still... I just dont know that there really is an answer here. Not when too many people think just like Nightstrike and Phattscotty or at least think their kind of "reasoning" makes perfect sense.

Sometimes I think we worry too much about evil versus good. The real harm of the world is generally not perpetuated by the insane criminals who do things like shoot 80 kids. The real harm is in the quiet denial of the impact of just not checking into details when relaying "facts", attempts to claim there are no facts, only opinions (true in a very esoteric sense, but not else). As much as I disdain Phattscotty's lack of fortitude, and plain disagree with Nightstrikes "reasoning", I know they are not evil people, they only want the same as the rest of us. And that is precisely why lack of checking, etc is so very dangerous. It turns even good people into perpetrators of evil.

Because most people who vote Republican know that the only way to get ahead is to work for it yourself instead of relying on the government to take it from others and give it to you. They know that a free society cannot exist while the government redistributes wealth.

You're young still, Night Strike. Someday, I do hope that you will avail yourself of some opportunities to to be educated by people who actually disagree with you strongly. You clearly currently only give serious credence to opinions which you already agree with. That isn't education, that's simply affirmation, and it's a path that can only lead you to mistakes, potentially very grave ones. It probably won't happen until you get older though...that's the way it was with me.

How did you possibly come to that conclusion, based on my statements above?

It was an inference i had made based upon your statement that the Republicans position themselves for the uninformed. Hence leading to the conclusion that the Republican party is composed of uninformed people.

Some people vote for Republicans because their values are different than yours. It is not always about the money. Many homosexuals vote Democratic because that party tends to support their goals more than the Republican party. Conservative Christians tend to vote for Republican Party because the GOP tends to support their values. Don't presume everyones vote is based upon economic policy. I will never be rich, no where even close, however I do tend to vote Republican because of the "rhetoric" that they espouse when it comes to how my tax money is spent. My life has been anything but a gilded path, more like very muddy game trail strewn with boulders. I have had to scratch, claw, and break my back to get everything I have, and every year the amount I pay in assorted taxes goes up. I am struggling today as much as I did 15-20 years ago, but I am supposed to give up even more of my wages to help others. Do I want to give up more money for the corporate welfare that the Republicans enable, no, but because of my struggles in life and getting myself out of poverty, that form of governmental largess bothers me less.

1. Just because the Republican Party positions itself for the uninformed does not mean that the Republican Party members are all uninformed people.

2. None of that has anything at all to do with the Democratic Party, which is what your question was about. So I ask again, how did you possibly come to that conclusion, based on my statements above?

You gotta luv the democrats.

They have half the country believing that the only party to pass a bill (2 of them) is the one that will be responsible for a default.

You gotta love the Republicans. They have half the country believing that passing two pieces of shit means they're actually trying to resolve the deficit problem.

Yes Nightstrike, because you've never availed yourself of being exposed to people whom you disagree with on internet forum discussions. Please take the next step and place yourself under the tutelage of those who will properly redirect you. You see, espousing and articulating a set of beliefs based on principles that you accept as true is simply being stubborn, and that only inhibits your growth as a person. The times they are ahhhchangin' and you don't want to be left behind with all the fuddy duddys who think that hard work should be rewarded by retaining most of the wealth produced by it.

Let's not have this talk again, NS -- get informed.

While he does do it a lot, you have to admit DangerBoy has a history of adding little to nothing to the political discussions here.

I know, it's case-and-point to what Woodruff was saying in the first post: the only people who are informed are those who turn to Democratic beliefs. It's kind of like that lie-for-a-study saying Fox News viewers were less informed because the study defined the correct view as agreeing with the view of the Obama Administration.

That isn't even remotely what I was saying. But, of course, you couldn't bother yourself to actually read it and try to understand it for yourself...which was precisely my point.

You act like paying serious attention to different information is the worst thing you could possibly do, as if just by doing so you will be indoctrinated with no way to recover. There are others here, on both sides of the aisle, who do the same thing...but I had hoped that you were young enough and that we had a decent enough understanding between us, that you could overcome that obstacle with yourself.

There are MANY "Democratic beliefs" that I find unreasonable and illogical. But you've lumped me in as believing in all of them, because clearly...if I believe in one, I must be sucked into them all! I can't possibly hold on to any conservative ideals, because I'm clearly a Democratic bullhorn, right? <sigh>

Someday you'll group up and stop listening to idiots like Fox News, DangerBoy and Phatscotty and start listening at least to intelligent conservatism. I hope. Because honestly, it does not appear that you're doing so yet, based on so many of the things you post in these fora.
