Spoils Re-dealt

Post by FVAISEY »

I haven't really paid much attention to the cards before playing the nuke games. Now I've noticed that a number of the cards have shown up again after they were turned in. This happened over only a few rounds. I would take this to mean that spoils are just tossed back into the deck after they are turned in. Does anyone have any knowledge/opinions or rants on this subject? Does it only happen in Nuke games? Tx!

This happens in all types of spoils turns. One more than one occasion I will turn in a set, and get a card for the same territory at the end of that round. I don't really see it as much of an issue.

Basically, when issuing a card a random territory on the map will be selected for the card. In your case you just happened to gain the same territory card in a short space of time.

We all know how 'random' the dice are, the cards are just trying to follow suit :)

Yes in fact arg
.
The other thing that causes shuffle to look less than random has to do with statistics and probability. Take the instance of a coin flip. While it's not very likely that one person flipping a coin 10 times would get heads every time, it's statistically – and even actually – possible (as illustrated in the opening to Tom Stoppard's "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead"). This is because each coin flip is a distinct event, with probabilities reset each time. The events only look related to humans observing it.

The the last element that causes us to suspect that iTunes Shuffle isn't truly random is our brains. The human brain is wired to seek out and see patterns – sometimes even where they don’t exist. This is an important function of the brain and makes our brains pretty powerful tools, but it can mislead us when examining questions like this.

I guess you fall in the latter part. Unless you figured out it is not random and made yourself a general because of it, instead of skill...

Thanks for the responses. Trying to formulate strategy in Nuke Games regarding the cards. I guess the only safe way to safequard a stack from annihilation is to be holding the card. Unless my assumption that you can't deal out multiple cards for the same region at the same time is wrong also.

it depends on the map. if you play on a large enough map that all the players holding 5 spoils each is not going to need to draw more spoils then there are territories then you are right. e.g. doodle is a location where at least one player hold 3 europa spoils in one hand...

so it is possible to get the same spoils, but only on small maps. it is safe to hold a nuclear spoil in a laarger map and build a stack there. that is a sound strategy, untill you kill somone and are forced to use the set you got to kill yourself (it happens)
