So I see he was banned for trolling? Who was he trolling? The entire Conquer Club Team? This is just silly.

If anything, he was maybe spamming by posting the same general message six times in the space of sixteen hours.

None of this really matters to me, except the one simple fact which was pointed out by owenshooter. That is, the fact that Conquer Club is offering up a cheap (well, free really, as it costs them sweet stuff all), measly, poor excuse of a reward in the form of 3 months free premium membership, when some individual is putting up $25 of their own damn money. Why so tight-fisted?

How come owenshooter gets banned for this, but eddie2 doesn't get banned for his abusive language directed at BoganGod? Sorry eddie2, but I'm just using you as an example.

So he's banned for three months for a storm in a teacup offense? Why don't you just Foe And Move On?

It was his 7th minor offense. Along with "over reporting posts" in which he was called the n-word. There are CC rules and there are Owen rules.

maasman makes a good point, but jbrettlip makes an equally valid counter. I couldn't agree more that the moderation of these forums are "disproportionate", although I have a stronger word in mind. The consistency and fairness of judgement being passed seems to be almost random at times, with the logic seeming flawed.

The issue for me here is that it doesn't seem fair, especially when compared to the stuff other people are getting away with, and the fact that the particular action which he eventually got banned for was not a "ban-able" offense. It warranted a gentle unofficial smack on the wrist for repeating himself (perhaps also known as spamming boys and girls), and nothing more.

If you are going to ban someone, do it for a proper reason, like *Snowman* and *jonny*. On that note, I'm still waiting for moderator action in regards to the actions of *jonny*.

I think you have to take it in context... by the definition of trolling posted in the OP, the posts need to provoke an emotional response. If owenshooter's comments provoked any emotion, it would be jealousy in how hilarious he is. In his posts he was promoting another premium giveaway contest (and a better one) so I'm not sure if Team CC understands the concept of people being on the same side, and I think that they're really, really overreacting to this.

Just to be clear on this. The facts are that cc is giving away a measly 3 months premium like it was some God given gift...furthermore members HAVE have to wear the cc signature (controlling?). To do such a thing does cause some long term members to have a strong view. I have refused to pay premium for some time now as I cannot see why I should support such an oppressive environment as is presently seen by a very poorly performing Moderation crew (with notable exceptions). This is purely my opinion.

The bandits are giving away 12 months premium and it does seem shabby of Andy and his crew to punish Owen for showing them up in a bad light. As has been mentioned there is no real on cost in giving away 3 months premium, there is purely a loss of income. I notice Andy has not shown support for the Bandit initiative....a piss poor performance by him especially.

All in all a pretty rum do by Andy Dufresne and his team.

They have to wear the avatar in addition to the signature. It's not really a contest it's more of a raffle with a random person who kept the avatar/signature up getting the 3 months premium.

The BPB Premium giveaway actually requires effort and skill where the winner displayed a semblance of talent in his or her knowledge of ROCK and is therefore more worthy of the description of a contest.

He wasn't banned for spamming though, he was banned for trolling. BPB has acquiesced that they would accept him getting in trouble for spamming (probably a warning or far shorter vacation per the escalating discipline) but per the official definition of trolling, it seems like a reach.

Congratulations to BPB for raging against the machine. Rock on, sweet multi-colored Jesuses.

how original... team CC has a contest where you sport a sig with a partner, one premium one freemium (doubling the exposure of the sig)... and if you win the drawing the premium gets a medal and the freemium gets 3 months of premium. how can our rag tag clan give away a year, and cc can only manage 3 months? wow!!!-0

For the record owen, we are giving away a total of 2 years and 3 months in this entire event. We can offer more people prizes by splitting up what we've got, so we can make more people happy. Are you or your team going to come back with a rational explanation as to why you chose to shut Owen up because he exercised his right to state an opinion? After all, in the last 3 posts he was responding to something written by some one else. Or are we going to see the usual self righteous remark because some one in Admin/Mods has a thin skin and cannot take criticism. Well here's the thing Andy. The 3 month giveaway does look cheap. it does look as though this site is being cheeseparing and Fagin like in its approach.
