PLAYER's right. I mean, Jesus hung out with what was considered the scum of the Earth at the time - you don't think he would hang out with gays?

Stupid black people and their wanting to be treated equally to white people. I'd totally be opposed to interracial marriage except I'm afraid of being called a racist.
Except there is absolutely no similarity between race and sexual preference.
Why not?

Why is homosexuality different? Biology? Science indicates there IS a biologic difference.

HOWEVER, even if there were not .. why is homosexuality different that the practice of Buddhism, or Paganism or any other belief system you oppose?
Sexual preference is a person's choice while race is not. That's all that I was implying by my statement.

In fairness to nightstrike, he has never gone anywhere close to that far. He simply does not like homosexuality. He has other views I consider objectionable, but he more or less expresses them reasonably, that is within the bounds of CC debate, which is not the same as "polite".

And well, I don't believe he moderates in the forum any longer, except in unusual cases (emergency stuff).

Or, to put it another way.. sure, I dislike a lot of what he says, but if we all agreed, who would we debate.

Apparently priests and nuns do. Buddhist monks reportedly as well. (and yes, there are obviously those who only pretend)
And well, there are some for whom it might be other people's choice to abstain.

so are you telling me that a woman can be straight her whole life up to 30 years old, married with kids, and one day meets a beautiful woman who hits on her, and they sleep together, one time.

She was born a bisexual?
There are degrees of bisexuality. She was born with her sexual orientation, whatever it happens to be. In any case, anything is possible. She might very well have been a closet lesbian the entire time. Your hypothetical situation is meaningless.

Honestly though guys, this is pathetic. All of the stuff I've been saying is easily googlable. If you really want to know about it, you can educate yourselves. Stop being so goddamn lazy.
It's just another excuse for people to do whatever they want to do and then force everybody else to accept their choice of lifestyles.
How are you being forced to accept their choice of lifestyle. No one is making you have sex with someone of the same sex! The fact is you want to force people to be the same as your hetrosexual choice (i use the word loosly as I don't believe its a choice) of lifestyle. You are being asked to tolorate other peoples lifestyle, your not being forced to participate.

Please quote the exact verse in the bible, where he says he hates gays.

As one gay man said to me 'Jesus hung out with 12 men and a prostitute, he more like a gay man than a straight one.'

Seriously though, please tell me where in the bible it says that he hates gays!

Good luck finding the verse. it doesn't exist.

On this I heartily agree. Christians, as a whole do not believe that. It really is just a (very vocal) lunatic fringe who do.

Edited for error

Much as I disagree with Night Strike on this issue, he's done nothing of the sort.

I don't recall NS saying anything remotely close to that. Show me where he says they should be killed? Kind of stretching it there...

I don't believe that homosexuality is a choice. Lets have a little logical look at this.

Sexual orientation in humans. - heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual, a-sexual(something some "popular" social scientists[how this is real science is debatable]are trying to push as an option)

heterosexual is the normal/default orientation, not saying that it is any better/worse just what we as a species are programmed for.

homosexuality occurs in humans and other animals, generally a small but significant percentage of the total population

bisexuality - a few different view points on this. A lot of conjecture that most people are latently bisexual. Some asset that bisexual behaviour is largely situational ie nominally heterosexual men in prison who indulge in homosexual acts. Bisexual people are generally not religious, so one could infer that without the "morals" of a religion more people would identify as bisexual. Religions after all are about procreation(more people born into a religion, increased chance of said religion existing for another generation).

asexual - pseudo science aside is probably just a hormonal imbalance or prior history either negative or uninspiring sexual encounters.

People are inherently lazy, and prone to follow the path of least effort/resistance. There is stigma and prejudice against homosexuals. Identifying as heterosexual is the easiest and most socially acceptable sexual orientation. To identify as homosexual is to invite discrimination, prejudice, and vilification.

Q E D People don't have a choice in their sexual orientation

If homosexuality was not learned, then there would not be an effort to teach homosexuality in schools.

It's the parents job, with only a few exceptions.

Why shouldn't it be? It's as real a concept that students will end up seeing in the real world time and time again. Instead of having them unaware of it until they graduate and enter the world, why not just be able to talk about it like any other area of Social Science?

 You can't teach sexual orientation....... Maybe people could be given tutorials to achieve better sexual proficiency.

Though that leads down the slippery slope of competence based assessment. If competence equalled orgasm then there would be people missing out. If competence equalled procreation(biological desired end result of fucking) then it would derided as biased against homosexuals. Do we really need sex ed in schools? Trial and error, plus word of mouth has worked for previous generations. We are still here as a species after all. Yes it would be useful for kids to be taught that the clitoris is not a mythological funny sounding Belgian pez dispenser, but is it necessary?

There is no such effort. There is an effort to teach tolerance of many things, regardless of how your parents view them.. be it people of other races, religions or sexuality. Tolerance does not mean conversion, or even acceptance. It just means you are not allowed to throw things at people, refuse to rent them housing, refuse to hire them and so forth becuase they are homosexual.

actually, there are people who do choose. take saudi arabia as an example. males and females are strictly segregated. this leads a lot of males to have sex with males pre-marriage (dunno about females, obviously never heard from a saudi female and dun think I'll ever do.) after getting married to females, some of those dudes keep having sex with males from time to time, and some just completely forget that they have ever done it.

Actually, if you stop and think about it, society has undergone phenomenal change in just 100 years. Just one 100 years ago, the right of women to own property, to make decisions about her own body (and I do NOT mean abortion here!.. I mean far more basic medical decisions) was tenuous or non-existant in practice. Descrimination of blacks was not only accepted, Jim Crow laws codified it. Sodomy, etc were considered "high crimes".
This really is true, and a good reminder. I too sometimes fall into the trap of thinking that it's unbelievable that some particular views are still common...but as player said, how many generations are involved in that 100 years? That's really not at all much time for ingrained beliefs to change, and a lot of change for the better has occurred in that time. That's not a reason to "settle" or be satisfied with it, but it has to be recognized.
Fair comment, things have changed a lot very quickly,it's good to be reminded there are still a lot of knuckle draggers out there...

No problem with protecting society from paedophiles or animal abusers, even if they are unable to stop. But where an orientation is as harmless as homosexuality,or left handedness,I see no problem at all.

That would depend on the legal age of consent in the country concerned, the previous criminal record of the 18 year old, etc, etc.

I've also never never heard an animal complain about being kicked but it is reasonable to anthropomorphise to the extent that they don't like it.
