Introduction
As the leaves begin to turn a crisp golden color and the air smells an autumn fresh, time inches ever closer to many Americans' favorite festivities of feasting and fellowship. In the fall, on Thanksgiving, Americans give thanks to those who endured the struggle in the pursuit of religious freedom (i.e. "The Pilgrims") and formed the foundation of the United States.

As the leaves begin to fall from the trees and snow begins to touch to the ground, the wide array of winter holidays begin, providing a year-ending dose of holiday cheer. What bonds these holidays are not just the festivities and fellowship, but rather what often sits at the center of many families' dinner tables: a perfectly-prepared, mouthwatering, luscious treat: a roasted pig.

As the Holidays 2011 arrive, let us enjoy a Pig Roast!


This tournament is expected to last from early November until early/late March, with a break for winter holidays at the end of December. Note that the tournament MAY (though unlikely) continue longer than anticipated.

You must have completed 25 games on Conquer Club. (if you're a non-premium member, you can take part as long as you meet these requirements.)

Any players banned due to poor sportsmanship in any of my tournaments shall not be allowed to enter the Pig Roast.


Any form of violation of the Rules of Conquer Club found at (Conquer Club) Rules (including any approved withstanding rules, decisions, or judgments from the Multi Hunters and/or Cheating/Abuse Team) including, but not limited to, creating "multiple accounts", engaging in "secret diplomacy", "throwing games", and/or taking part in any form of collusion or actions taken to provide an unfair advantage to oneself, and/or to any other player in the tournament, that is against the spirit of sportsmanship may result in expulsion from the tournament. The organizer has full judgment in making these decisions and may employ assistance from the Multi Hunters or Cheating/Abuse Team in assessing a situation in which there is suspicion of cheating or rule violations.
In other words: NO cheating
Luckily, cheating is rare, as we have honest people here on CC .

Basics of the Roast: Read for an Overview of the Tournament
Players will be divided into groups of 4. The player with the highest score (the score they had when they posted they would join the tournament) in the group will begin play by selecting a map (a player may select a single map only once throughout the entire tournament) and a group of settings (this player is known as the Roaster). The other 3 players will individually battle the player on that map and those settings (1v1 games).

The player who beat the Roaster in the fewest number of rounds will then become the next Roaster, selecting a map and settings. Play then continues until only one player in the group remains (see the method of scoring below in the Scoring section of the rules below).

The last player remaining wins the group and advances to the next stage.

Players are then divided into groups of 4 again, and the process repeats itself until there is only one group remaining (4 players left). The last player alive in that group wins the tournament!

These are the basics of the tournament. I will be sending private messages to the Roasters for their choice of map and settings, so there's no need to post them here. The full rules are below for those who truly care! You can skim them too because important things are highlighted. And I'll be sending rule reminders all throughout the tourney.

The Official Rules of the Pig Roast: Holidays 2011
*The tournament organizer has the final say on any issues connected to the tournament and tournament play.

*Random.org will be used when randomness is needed.

Any settings that are added to Conquer Club after the tournament begins (November 5, 2011) are ignored for purposes of tournament play, and may not be included in any games in the tournament. Added March 8, 2012.

Number of Players: 64
Determining the Groups

Players will be ranked according to their base score (the score players posted upon joining) from 1 to 64, with #1 having the highest base score and #64 having the lowest base score. Players will then be divided into 4 "pots."

#1-16 will be placed into Pot 1.
#17-32 will be placed into Pot 2.
#33-48 will be placed into Pot 3.
#49-64 will be placed into Pot 4.

Players in Pot 1 will be randomly placed in each of the 16 groups in the tournament (one player in each group; Groups A through P); this person will automatically become the first Roaster in the group (see the next section).
Players in Pot 2 will be randomly placed in each of the 16 groups (one in each group from each Pot).
Players in Pot 3 will be randomly placed in each of the 16 groups (one in each group from each Pot).
Players in Pot 4 will be randomly placed in each of the 16 groups (one in each group from each Pot).

Therefore, each group will have a player from Pot 1, Pot 2, Pot 3, and Pot 4.[/spoiler]
Gameplay
[spoiler=Gameplay]Gameplay

The player with the highest base score in the group (the player from Pot 1) selects a map of their choice and a group of settings. This player is known as the Roaster, and the other three players in the group are known as the piggies for the round (or "Rotation"). A BETA map may not be selected until it is no longer a BETA map. Additionally, the random setting may not be selected by the Roaster as a "map." The Roaster must clearly select a map and not leave it up to "randomness.". All games must be Sequential and Casual.

Each of the other three players in the group (the three "piggies") play a 1v1 game against the Roaster on the Roaster's selected map and settings.

The piggy who beat the Roaster in the fewest number of rounds will then become the next Roaster for the next Rotation (or round), selecting a map and settings of his choice. If two piggies win in the same round, then the piggy with the higher base score becomes the next Roaster. Play then continues as above.

If nobody beats the Roaster, then the Roaster "keeps his roasting stick" for the next "rotation" of the pig. (The Roaster will be the Roaster again for another round).

Once the Roaster selects a map to play on, he may NOT select that map for the rest of the entire tournament!

The last player remaining in the group advances to the next stage of the tournament. The other 3 players are eliminated from the tournament.

Regarding the Roaster
It is good to be the Roaster, as you can select the map you play on, and the scoring system is geared in favor of the Roaster, as every player he defeats directly gets a letter. However, the Roaster can always be shocked and get a letter himself if each piggy defeats him!

Also, note that the Roaster is not a permanent position: the roasting stick is intended to change hands numerous times as players defeat the Roaster.[/spoiler]
Scoring
VERY Important: Read this or risk being confused throughout tournament play!

If a "piggy" loses, then a letter is added to the standings board next to his name. The first letter is a "P", the second is an "I", and the last is a "G" (thus you are a roasted PIG and eliminated after 3 letters).

If a "piggy" wins, then he does NOT get a letter.

The Roaster cannot "get a letter" unless ALL piggies still alive in the group win in their 1v1 games against him; if this occurs, the Roaster gets ONE letter. This applies regardless how many piggies are left in the group, even if there is only 1 piggy left.

A letter is REMOVED from next to the Roaster's name if he defeats ALL piggies still alive in the group in the 1v1 games. BUT, if this occurs when the Roater does not have a letter, than NO letter is removed.

Once any player has three letters and the word PIG spelled next to his name, that player is eliminated. Clarification is provided with an example below.

Example
[spoiler=Example]Rotation 1: Wesley has the highest base score in the group, so he becomes the Roaster. He selects Doodle Earth, with Freestyle, Escalating, Manual, Unlimited, and Foggy as his settings. The tournament organizer denies Wesley the right to play Freestyle games because it is against the rules, so Wesley chooses the Sequential setting. Wesley defeats all three opponents (Sally Anne, Jimbo, and Cecilia), but because he does not yet have a letter, no letter is removed.
Sally Anne, Jimbo, and Cecilia each have the letter P added next to their names. Wesley is the Roaster for the next round, since he won all of the games.

Rotation 2: Wesley now selects Doodle Earth again, but is denied by the organizer because you can't select the same map twice. So he selects Feudal War, with Escalating, Automatic, Chained, and Foggy as his settings. Wesley loses to all three opponents. The letter P is added to his name, since he lost to ALL piggies. The three piggies do not get a letter (since each piggy won). Cecilia and Sally Anne both defeated Wesley in Round 6. But Cecilia has a higher base score, so she becomes the next Roaster.

Rotation 3: Cecilia selects Classic, with Escalating, Auto, Chained, and Foggy. She loses to Jimbo but defeats Sally Anne and Wesley. Sally Anne and Wesley thus get another letter, indicated by an I next to the P on the scorecard. Jimbo, the only piggy who beat Cecilia, becomes the Roaster.
...
Rotation 6: Sally Anne and Jimbo have been eliminated (spelling the word PIG), so only Wesley and Cecilia remain. Wesley has PI and Cecilia has PI. Wesley is the Roaster, and defeats Cecilia. A letter is therefore removed from next to Wesley's name for defeating every piggy still alive in the group, so he now has P. Cecilia gets a letter for losing to the Roaster, so she now has P, I, and G, spelling the word PIG. Cecilia is eliminated.
Wesley advances as the #1 player from the group.[/spoiler]

The Sizzling Sixteen

There are 16 players in this stage; 4 Groups of 4.
Each of the 16 players won their respective group. The 16 players are now ranked from #1 to #16, according to during what Rotation the players won their groups.

The #1 player will have won (Thus have eliminated the other 3 players) in the fewest number of Rotations, while the #16 player will have won in the most number of Rotations. If players won during the same Rotation, they will be ranked according to base score, with the player with the highest base score ranked highest and the player with the lowest base score ranked lowest.

Example: Bob, Sue, and Micky all advanced. Bob eliminated his last opponent in Rotation 9. Sue eliminated her last opponent in Rotation 5. Micky eliminated his last opponent in Rotation 3. Therefore, Micky is ranked highest (3 rotations), and Bob is ranked lowest (9 rotations).

Players #1-#4 will be placed into Pot A.
Players #5-#8 will be placed into Pot B
Players #9-#12 will be placed into Pot C
Players #13-#16 will be placed into Pot D).

One player from each pot is randomly placed in each of the 4 divisions.

Thus in every division there is a player from Pot A, Pot B, Pot C, and Pot D.

Play now continues according to the Official Rules, with the players from Pot A as the initial Roasters.

The last player remaining advances from the group, as before, into the Fiery Four.[/spoiler]

The Fiery Four

The final 4 players in the tournament now are grouped into one group.

The player that won in the Sizzling Sixteen in the fewest number of Rotations will become the Initial Roaster. If players won during the same Rotation, they will be ranked according to base score, with the player with the highest base score becoming the Initial Roaster.

Example: Adam, Bill, Charles, and Dave all advanced into the Fiery Four. Adam won his group in Rotation 3. Bill won his group in Rotation 4. Charles won his group in Rotation 5. Dave won his group in Rotation 6. Therefore, Adam will be the Initial Roaster, because he advanced after the fewest number of Rotations (3).

Play now continues according to the Official Rules.

The last player remaining is the winner of the tournament and is named the Robust Roaster.[/spoiler]

No-Show Policy

All players will have a generous 72 hours to join a tournament game; after all, you never know how distracted you can get with all these holiday delicacies.


Inactive Roaster Clause

• a) Should the Roaster of a group that has at least 2 piggies still alive fail to provide the organizer with a map and settings after 3 hours (and any additional grace time added by the organizer) upon being informed he is the Roaster, then, according to the aforementioned No-Show Policy, each of his opponents will be "credited with a win." As a result, the Roaster will get a letter because he has, effectively, lost to each alive piggy in the group.
  
  To determine which of the piggies will be the Roaster for the next Rotation, the piggies still alive in the tournament shall play in 1, Standard game on a Random map (using the Random setting) with the CC default settings and a 50-round limit. The CC default settings are Automatic Initial Troops, Sequential Play Order, Escalating Spoils, Chained Reinforcements, No Fog of War, and 24 Hours Round Length.
  
  The winner of this 1, Standard game will be the Roaster for the next Rotation
  
  A reserve does NOT replace the inactive Roaster; rather, a letter is added to the inactive Roaster, and play continues; the inactive player continues to receive invites to his games. In other words, should the inactive Roaster, who is now a piggy in the next Rotation, become active, he shall continue playing in the group.
  
  
  Should the player remain inactive, then he would receive a letter during each Rotation because he will have lost to the Roaster in each Rotation (having forfeit his match).

• b) Should the Roaster of a group that has only 1 piggy still alive fail to provide the organizer with a map and settings after 3 hours (and any additional grace time added by the organizer) upon being informed he is the Roaster, then, according to the aforementioned No-Show Policy, his opponent will be "credited with a win." As a result, the Roaster will get a letter because he has, effectively, lost to each alive piggy in the group.
  
  The 1 alive piggie in the group will then become Roaster in the next Rotation.

If, prior to when I begin making tournament games, I find that a player has not logged into Conquer Club in the last 120 hours (5 days), and that player has not informed me of their absence, then that player will be removed and immediately replaced by a reserve before play begins.

If a player fails to join a game within 3 days (plus any grace time I may add), then a letter will be added next to their name (indicated by the addition of the next appropriate letter on the scoreboard), and the opponent is credited with a win.

In Rotation 1 (and only Rotation 1) of the opening stage of the tournament, if a player fails to join a game within 3 days (plus any grace time I may add), that player will be replaced by a reserve.

In Rotation 1 (and only Rotation 1) of the Sizzling Sixteen or the Fiery Four, if a player fails to join a game within 3 days (plus any grace time I may add), then the organizer will use a method of his choice to select a player from the previous stage who did not advance to replace that player. The organizer has FULL discretion.

If you know you cannot for some reason commit to the tournament, it is greatly appreciated if you let me know before the tournament starts so I can replace you with a reserve.

Should a player that signed up as a premium player become a non-premium member during the tournament, that player will be allowed to continue playing, using 1 of his 4 available game slots. If he becomes the Roaster, he will be allowed grace time to play all 3 games, so long as he is making an active effort in joining games quickly, even if this means using more than 1 game slot for a short period of time. A non-premium player may be removed if he is not able to join games and is delaying the tournament.[/spoiler]

[spoiler=FAQ]Q: After the first stage of group play, I will eventually play people from other groups, once all my opponents have PIG, right?
A: Correct; if you are the winner of the group, you advance to the next stage, where there will be 4 groups of 4, with new people in each group.

Q: I just beat the Roaster; shouldn't he have a P since I beat him!?
A: Players do not get letters if they are "dethroned" from their Roaster position; only if all piggies defeated the Roaster, then the Roaster gains a letter. Note the rules:

The Roaster cannot "get a letter" unless ALL piggies still alive in the group win in their 1v1 games against him; if this occurs, the Roaster gets ONE letter. This applies regardless how many piggies are left in the group, even if there is only 1 piggy left.

Q: Can maps marked as BETA be used in the tournament?
A: While some of the BETA maps look really good and exciting, there's always the risk of a malfunction since after all, they're still being tested and aren't perfect. Players will have to wait until maps are no longer BETA before selecting to play on them.

Q: Do players keep their letters going into round two or does everyone start fresh?
At the start of a new stage, every player is equal, with 0 letters.

Q: So if I lose to the last remaining "piggy" in the group, do I still get a letter?
Yes; if a Roaster loses to all piggies in the group (ignoring those eliminated), he gains a letter. This rule is designed to raise the stakes a bit towards the end of group play...

Q: Can I use a map someone else has used? If I'm reading it right, I just can't choose the same map twice.
You may choose ANY non-BETA map as long as you have not selected it before when you are the Roaster, irrespective of what maps the other players have selected. So, if each player in a group is Roaster once and they each select Classic, then yes, all the games could be played on the same map (Classic).

Do letters carry over to subsequent stages, or does everyone start with a clean slate?

Everyone starts with a "clean slate". This means that, at the beginning of any new stage (Opening stage, Sizzling Sixteen, Fiery Four) in which there are new groups, all players will have no letters.[/spoiler]

What are you stating is correct.
You may choose ANY non-BETA map as long as you have not selected it before when you are the Roaster, irrespective of what maps the other players have selected. So, if each player in a group is Roaster once and they each select Classic, then yes, all the games could be played on the same map (Classic).

I have PM'ed each player to confirm entrance into the tournament, but I'll just state here as well: ALL in through here ("updated" so to speak).
