This thread needs to be merged:

I figure if we merge enough dead threads together, we might get an interesting thread.

The local chapter of the Left Wing Theft Squad is on the case here in Massachusetts. We used to have one statewide sales-tax rate. Recently the Squad increased the rate at which they steal from me... raising the theft rate from 5% to 6.25%. However, at the same time they snuck in a little provision allowing each individual municipality (city or town) to add their own local sales tax to hospitality services. There are 351 cities and towns in the "Commonwealth"... so effectively we could have 351 different tax rates. The place I historically purchase CHRISTMAS party food at is in a municipality that adds another 0.75%... thereby increasing the effective rate to 7%.

How does one purchase Christmas party food historically?

Do you shoot the president on the way out? I'm assuming there's some sort of speech involved, perhaps a rally? With slogans? "No "0.75% tax increase without 0.75% increase in representation!"?

I'm just kidding- seriously though, don't buy food that can be described as historical. Always check the dates on the packaging.

Except for if you're buying dates, then just check the packaging around them.

I'm sorry if you fail to understand common American phrases. I understand there may be a culture gap. If you ask in a serious manner I will be happy to clarify.

Alternatively you can apply for a U.S. Federal Grant to study slang discrepancies between the US and UK. I am sure you can get tones of my money um... I mean grant funding.

Your use of the term 'historically' here suggests that you don't understand the meaning.

Historically, your response suggests you are being sarcastic. Though in this case that's a big FAIL cause sarcasm must include humor and you fail here.

My sincere apologies, apparently I'm unaware of the slang defintions of "sarcasm" and "history", but i will rely on your tried and trusted (and indeed well thought out) posts to guide me.

I realise that you think I'm being sarcastic, and this is a thing that makes me sad, but i want to emphasise how much respect I have for your carefully thought out posts. Often the craftsmanship and attention to detail simply blow me away, and i can honestly say that the level of thought put into your replies is something that I wouldn't even hope to replicate.

If you're gonna rip off pimpdave, at least have the common decency to link to some sort of outrageous thing Obama is theoretically responsible for.
Also, populist mobs support the Democrats, now? I feel like you must have missed out on this Tea Party thing, it was kinda important. Anyways, I thought we were all effete coffee drinkers.

This thread is helping to change my mind. While I remain committed to bringing up stuff that the Tea Party (and it's Death Squads) is up to, I appreciate this counterpoint. Maybe you can continue to change my mind if you post in threads I start reporting on the Tea Party and take the Tea Party's side. Eventually I'll probably agree with you and stop posting threads about the Tea Party and their Death Squads.

Again, coming from a critic of government I find your happiness that Occupiers get arrested to be confusing. "I hate the state... except when it arrests people I don't like under odd circumstances."
Also, mainstream Dems =/// Occupy. For real, the only people that think Obama loves Occupy are Fox News anchors.

I guessed there would be no mention about less taxes, less government, and less debt. I'm just a lucky guesser I guess! Don't know what else I would expect from yet another foreigners "opinions" on America's Fourth Great Awakening!

Oh hey, what was this Brit doing getting health care in Texas?

speaking of......Here is Christopher Hitchens speaking on the wonders of the British Health Care system and trashing the American system.

It doesn't make me happy there have been over 5,000 OWS protesters arrested! wtf?

It's a shame and a black eye on my country. I would be happy if they found a better way to spread their message, whatever message that is as many people still don't know and many OWS protesters still are unable to tell us.

I don't think your link says what you think it does. But ah well, as the link says, the Tea Party doesn't really like to talk about the major issues. Hitch was right.

the tea party talks about major issues like taxes, government, and debt, as you damn well know.

The opponents of the Tea Party respond with racism, hatred, violence, manipulation, and lies.

Not really- the link is still exactly the same as my link, and doesn't support any of your points:

Here it is again:

Typical Tea Party carelesness. Should I expect an apology, or a series of desperate edits so that your previous posts make sense?

Scotty is pointing out that in the link all the man does is go through a litany of his perceived problems with the Tea Party (which may or may not be true for a small fringe of it) and does nothing to discuss the major issues the Tea Party was addressing - runaway government spending and excessive taxation and "representation" who was not listening to the voters (who have opposed both for many years). It was a piss poor way to attack the Tea Party, but hey if you can't discuss the actual issues - slander them.

I'm sorry, but this is nonsense and has nothing to do with any of the arguments proposed so far.
