If indeed that is what she means by what she said, yes it is indeed contemptible, and worthy of severe consequences for her to make such a suggestion. But I don't think that was her point.

I think that in the statement "What did they expect?", the "they" to whom she is referring is the feminist lobby who pushed for the presence of women in the military and specifically in the front lines, and she is saying that, given human nature and specifically the nature of many males in the military, this was a likely consequence. The suggestion is that for the sake of their ideology, feminist leaders were at best naive, and at worst willing to sacrifice the safety of their own constituents.

If indeed she is in any way trying to absolve from culpability any soldiers who actually committed the assaults, or any officers who enabled them by looking the other way before, during or after the assaults, then that is not only wrong but contemptible. Nevertheless, I don't think that what she is saying is what you, or even the Huff Post are saying that she is. She ought to clarify, and apologize for speaking in such a way that could have been interpreted as such.

I have to admit, this lady's statements are...well, nothing short of awful.

One thing she doesn't mention, as it would go against her claims that too much money is being spent in supporting rape victims (what the hell?), is that even though rape claims have increased by 64%, a good deal of that is likely due to better reporting of rapes. These days, women feel more comfortable in reporting rapes than they used to.

My first clue that this OP was legit was that Dave didn't bring up the Tea Party anywhere.

Not according to FOX news... according to one analyst... and according to one coservative... That statement shows how NON serious this OP is. I disagree with her saying they shouldn't be protected, however, this is one of the reasons women have been discouraged to go the front lines.

Just about all women polled want to be in combat roles. Pretty sure they're in a better place to decide that than someone who's not in the military.

i would not say that these women deserve rape (i do not know them so how can i). that is not really in question.

but what is a question, is if you look at the kind of man who joins the army then you have to ask why a woman would want to live and train with these men? officers can be okay but the man who is a private you are fair to at least consider the risks of them. it does seem a bit like the sheep attempting to walk into the cave of wolves, if a woman serves in the army.

the army is made of men who are happy to kill people. these are not men you would expect to treat a woman with safety.

That's ridiculous. No woman anywhere, deserves to be raped. To say the "type of people" recruited by the military put women in their own ranks at risk for sexual assault is absurd.

If a woman wants to serve in the military, why should she be deterred by the chance of rape? She shouldn't be punished for having strength in her convictions.

And if the risk is too high for a woman to expect to join the military unscathed, then that in itself is a problem. It shouldn't just be brushed off, and we shouldn't blame the victims for it.

If someone is killed by a drunk driver, nobody blames them for walking in the street on a Saturday night despite the risk involved; nor would anyone ask "What did you expect?" to a hypothetical group which lobbied for the right to walk in the street at night, because that would be absurd. This is no different.

okay hippys maybe you did not read: i am not saying that it is okay for the women to be raped. i am saying that there is a risk when the woman joins the army. think: it recruits people who can't find employment anywhere else (low intelligence) and how want to kill people (vicious nature)
