Actually, the current rules DO allow for trench warfare as they are written with an exclusionary approach rather than an inclusionary one:

Settings

• No Freestyle
• No Speed
• No Manual
• No Nuclear
• Unlimited is allowed with a limit of 2 games total per home set on trips and quad games only

While trench warfare seems like a generally valid format on the surface, I agree it should likely be added to the list of excluded settings this time around.
