Probably a stupid question - but how do you attack the mound?

You start at the person on the Left side, then you have to attack "Babe". From Babe you can work your way onto the field. Don't leave your troops on Babe though

I get that, but what is the route to the mound. From what places can the mound be attacked

And balls 6 and 9 are the closest to getting to the mound
