Child molestation? Hardly.

Unhealthy? Probably.

This all reminds me of that woman in A Game of Thrones who breastfeeds her 10-year-old son. Oh, yeah, baby.

Walked into a restaurant today for lunch and saw a woman nursing her 2-3 yr old. Normally I wouldn't mind breastfeeding in public since I did it as well but she didn't use anything to cover it up. Boobs out for all

Another part of the issue is also that some times it's about the mother not being able to say no, or the child not accepting no for an answer.

Sometimes kids need to be made to do things! It doesn't matter if he/she doesn't want to go to bed or wants to watch tv all day. A good parent realize that it's not by giving your child what it "wants" that is important. It's giving it what it "needs"! That means for example cleaning your room, doing your homework, walking the dog, doing the dishes, working for free in a chinese factory etc.

I absolutely agree that many children need to be told "no", that some so-called "modern" parents are simply raising spoiled brats. BUT... the issue of breastfeeding goes well beyond and outside of that. There is a real, growing debate on this idea of breast feeding older kids. I think a lot of the debate is misguided, but its not just about permissiveness.

Not disagreeing with your general commet, but its just not the topic or problem in this particular case, generally (note.. some parents advocating this might also be "spoilers", but not all....)

As a former breast feeder myself, I have to speak up. Let me be clear, that I was discreet. I did not generally use a blanket, particularly when it was hot, but wore clothing that allowed me to feed without being "exposed" for the most part. However, there were times when, well a hand or kick dislodged things... and sometimes I did not realize it right away.

Here is the big thing... I would suspect that you saw less of her boobs than you might on an average beach or at the pool. That's OK, but this .. isn't? Think about that. If Breast feeding is considered to be one of the best things a woman can do for a child. The more is discovered about breast milk, the more benefits are found. Formula keeps improving, but note that it always improves to be more like breast milk. It is never the same.

I don't want to condemn women who cannot or won't breastfeed for whatever reason. BUT, ask yourself why so many women, even today, decide not to do what is clearly so beneficial for their children. Then answer lies a lot in the kind of snickered comments above.

Just think about that.

I breastfed my youngest child for 13 months. It was great. As I said earlier, I myself nursed in public but always used a cover. There are many people out there that don't understand breast feeding (which is sad) and there are a lot of pervs. It's one thing to nurse your child in front of friends and family without a cover, but at an extremely busy restaurant with strangers is another.

Many many years ago when I was 16 I worked as a waitress. While taking a families order the 4-5 year old child lifted her mothers shirt and took her breast out for all to see while also ordering what she wanted to eat.

What's so bad about displaying your titties to strangers?

Wait, that didn't come out right...

Why?
That bit about "there are pervs" doesn't sound much different than "you had better not wear shorts.... ", etc. Why should seeing a breast, particularly in a breast feeding situaion somehow be contributing to someone else's perversion?
Why does the potential pervert get to decide what is and is not OK? Besides, folks in Europe don't seem to have such a problem with it (simple breat feeding infants and toddlers, not talking the 4-5 year old bit, though the issue there should not be the breast, either)

Fact is that this issue is so important the right to breast feed in public is protected by law. When it comes to deciding whether to promote the idea that worrying about stupid perverts is more important than promoting healthy infant feeding.. sorry, I side for the infants.
