my info? what info? you mean the password to my account??
i don't think so

i already have someone to do it for me but i don't know how to do it.

on other games i've played there's a sitter option where you log in as a sitter with your password but using the sitted username. is this the case here?

you just have to be trusting and give someone your username and PW. I have sat for people in the past with no complaints!

but still this is rather odd. i mean think what would happen if somebody did something wrong

you have absolute power over the account. you can post in the forum send pms and join thousands of games and deadbeat in all of them.

anyway i have only one game going on and hopefully it will finish soon.

it is assumed that the person that you get is a CC staple or a close friend. A sitter doesn't start any new games either and doesn't post. It is ALL about trust.

yup i understand, but what if the guy that needs to be sitted is a new recruit that knows nobody that he can trust (except me)

i'm leaving with a friend. i have someone to sit for me but i don't know if he's willing to accept that person.

game sitting

Post by Whiteberry »

I trusted a player to take my turns a few weeks ago and it worked just fine. I think most people are honest enough to do a responsible job. If they don't their name is going to be trashed all over the forum. I would imagine you know someone you can trust.

is this based on the wide variety of players youve met in your 13 games?

This place is filled with great and trustworthy players. Id trust my password, and even my wallet with many of the people Ive met in here...

The fact that the bad apples are far more visible than the good, does not preclude the presence of the good ones

Jesus dude, relax. It's a freaking game! Obviously you want to find somebody you can trust, but it's not like you're handing over your SS# and your bank PIN.

How did you expect this type of thing to get handled. How is someone supposed to be able to make your turns without logging in as you? You'll be OK.

there are several people i can trust on this site but this is my case. imagine a new guy that came to CC and has to leave only a few days after he joined. he has a few games in progress. now his situation is more complicated. he knows nobody around the site because he's new. leaving the game and deadbeat would mean disaster. imagine having 5-6 negs for deadbeating right from the start, he will have to work really really hard to redeem his reputation.

now the system i think would work best would be a sitter system.

in your profile you can appoint another user as your sitter. he logs in with your user but with his password. he has limited powers:
*can't join new games
*can't send pms
*can't post in forums

and for the chat there's a solution. the system automatically adds sitter: XXX after the username. something like this:

2007-04-24 02:42:40 - DiM(sitter:XXX): good luck guys

well you started this game with 1000 points and 0-0 feedback.

how would you feel if you started with 900 points and 5-6 or even more neg feedbacks stating you are crap a moron who deadbeats, an idiot that misses turns and spoils the fun, and so on???

i personally read feedbacks and if i see someone with 5-6 deadbeating feedbacks i automatically put him on my ignore list.

Try this:

Before you head off, leave this in the game chat.
"Sorry guys, I have to leave for a few days and will likely miss turns. I'm sorry for any inconvenience this will cause but life happens."

Only a total prick would then leave neg feedback. If he does, you respond with. "Hey jerk-off, I told you in the game chat that I had to leave for a few days. Sorry I have a life. Get over yourself."

what if unexpected changes in real life make you leave without a warning??

then after you miss one turn the sitter can try to contact you. seeing you don't respond he takes action and prevents you for deadbeating

WTF this is even funnier than you maps.
have you read my post? didn't you see what i stated there? i have somebody to help me. my only concern is that he does not play CC but taking care of one game is not a hard task especially since that game is 99% won.

that's not the issue, i trust various people on this site but what is a new guy supposed to do?

and not trusting myself? how's that working? how could someone not trust himself?? this is hilarious. i'm already imagining a monologue
- i should brush my teeth before i go to bed.
- but what if i do it wrong?
- what if i sabotage my own teeth?
- OMG i might even not brush them at all..
- what to do? what to do?
- should i ask my wife to brush my teeth?
- hell no i can't trust her. i can't even trust myself!!!

I think this whole subject has gone into left field to stay. I think the main point of this discussion is that a functionality should be introduced to have someone take over your team, as a stand in on their own merit. Possibly have the sitter earn or lose points based on their play of the game...it is a good idea just one that has been lost in the murky thread.
