I do think it has been blown out of proportion a little, but when you are in another country you have to live by their laws! If he is prosecuted in India then it will be through full judicial process and, as much as people think its stupid, there will be little he can do about it. It will only be a fine anyway!

Its not really a big deal is it. India has a very different culture to the West, and what is acceptable here may not be there.

The fine will be pretty insignificant too.

I bought 100 rupies for like 80 cents Canadian including a service charge from the curency exchange place.

She should go to some bible belt part of the USA and get busted for her last name.

So? The Indian government is just obeying its own laws. Nothing wrong with that. I thought America respected state sovereignty?

According to the MSN article, the Indian government doesn't have anything to do with it. Why are you blaming the Indian government, Vincent? Have you got something against them?

And really, what's wrong with arresting Richard Gere for any reason whatsoever? Throw him in the slammer, and throw away the key. Don't care exactly what for - Pretty Woman is reason enough.

Kind of blown out of proportion, although he did seem to kinda be molesting here in the end. Like a peck on the cheeks or lips wouldn't have been enough? Probably dusn get any from his wife of GF's if he has any.

Uh, wasn't Pakistan created to keep the Muslim population still in the Indian Sub-continent but still out of India?

Plus, who the hell is Richard Gere?

The protests have come from both Muslims and Hindus. India is still a very conservative and religious society, and they have a history of pretty active protest. It may seem like a little silly thing to us but to Indians who are trying to resist the seemingly unopposable advance of Western culture (McDonalds and Loose Morals) it could seem much more. I don't see what the huge deal is. If someone came to the US and broke a law you'd expect to be prosecuted for it, even if it WAS silly and legal in your home country.

Worsed case scenario there's a riot and the mob severes Ricky's head. Or I guess best case if you're mean and didn't like the hookerella movie.

Hmm, Ricky gets thrown in the slammer for life; or his head cut off? Meh, it's all good to me.

If the Indian Government had nothing to do with this then you should change your poll so it can be answered. Otherwise it's just a biased and loaded question.

Er, but reliable sources have it that he wouldn't consider that punishment.
