Thank you for the "great idea" very encouraging.

The next one will be with the premature assault. I want to demonstrate what happens in a perfect game when some one prematurely shoots off their game and why they lose because of it; And why and how others benefit from being so premature about trying to take another player out when the spoils are so low and does not justify the elimination of another player.

That one was like only 7 rounds if I remember correctly but it makes for a nice little lesson I think.

Viceroy63 Assessment of Round 09 and 10
[spoiler]By the end of round 08, in what I affectionately call, "The Viceroy Strikes Back" round, Cyan ended up with the population bonus as well as those of South America and Africa. The benefits of these bonuses, is not so much that they give me extra troops, as they do, but also because it gives the opponent something to aim for and to try and break. Which is of course logical because if the opponent does not break those bonuses I can put those extra troops right into his back yard and wreck havoc with just a few extra troops.

The point is that those troops deployed to break my bonuses are diverted or divided from the main force up there in Montreal. If you notice the score board, the statistics board, you see where we both start out with the same 28 troops each but while Pink drops to 20 troops, I increased to 35 troops. Part of the reason for this is that Pink is not only going for just the card and conserving his troops. No; Pink is actively burning up energy and force trying to break my bonuses.

Even so, at this stage of the game where the spoils are now worth 40 troops and up, 08 extra troops do not really mean all that much. At this point in the game, in round 09, Pink and Cyan are both holding three spoils each and no one has a set to trade in. By the end of Round 09 they both each have four spoils trade and still no one has a set of spoils to trade in. It is at the end of round 10 that both players receive their fifth spoils and both have a set to trade yet Pink goes first before Cyan.

An argument could be made that Cyan did benefit from so many bonuses because in those two rounds (09 and 10), Cyan did reap an extra 20 or so troops that Pink did not. It can be said that this might have provided for Cyan's survival because when Pink finally did trade in for 40 troops, Cyan simply had more troops then could be eliminated by Pink. And even so, at this point it is really anyone's game.

Yet one weakness that I want to point out for the benefit of everyone who are learning from this thread; And that is the 11 troops that Pink has in Montreal. They are only 11 troops but they could have made all the difference in the world. There is an old saying, "Use em or Lose em." And no where is this so spelled out and illustrated then in this example. To have troops is one thing but to have troops actively engaging and making contact with the enemy is quite a different story.

Saddam Hussein made the same mistake in the Gulf War with his Imperial Guards. The "BEST" of the best and they were all hiding out underground in hidden bunkers. By the time they saw the Sun again, the Gulf War was over. So be it 11 troops or just 3 or 4, if you can, move them to the front lines where the action is and make them earn their salary. Those inactive 11 troops really bought me the time to survive Pinks onslaught and come back to win the game.[/spoiler]

[Note] My apologies but after this Game form I did not fill out any more. Perhaps I was just plain "cocky" or perhaps I thought that Pink would win having been the first to get the spoils and maybe I figured why bother? I can't really be certain as to why I did not fill out any more game forms so this is it. In the future though, I will fill out the game forms right down to the last round. Suffice it to say that this game ends in round 11 and the game log is self explanatory. But I should have put down my thoughts for posterity.[/spoiler]

Viceroy63 Assessment of Round 11
[spoiler]We come now to the final round where it can be noted that this game could have been won by Pink. Pink got a set of spoils worth 40 troops Plus 3 troops for 5 regions for a total of 43 troops. The only problem is that Cyan has a total of 49 troops on the board. It is a physical impossibility to eliminate Cyan's 49 troops with only 43 troops. But had Pink's original 11 troops in Montreal been more retro-active in this round, it would then had been a total of 54 Pink troops versus 49 Cyan's troops. Then it could have been possible.

Realizing that he could not eliminate Cyan, Pinks plan in round 11 is to wait and see if he can survive Cyan's Counter assault and hope that he might get the next spoils trade for 50 troops first, again. But even if we assume that Pink survives the counter assault, Cyan would still maintain the population bonus plus several of the Bonus Zones which in itself would offset the balance so that should Pink find that he does not have any spoils in a hypothetical round 12, then Cyan's Bonus troops alone, could very well spelled the end of the game for Pink. Otherwise Pink could still have won.

As it turn out, When Cyan turned in his spoils for 45 troops to combine them with the 5 troops for the 16 regions plus the 2 bonus troops on Berlin, Cyan then had a total of 52 troops to take on Pink's 38. More then enough for the job at hand. Bad dice not withstanding of course. Notice that I deployed all the troops on Berlin (Where I had received 2 bonus troops for Berlin) for maximum concentration of force. The rest is history. And if anyone cares to see a Cyan world? Wow! I almost had forgotten all about this thread.

Yes; My avoiding contact with those troops did allow me to regroup my forces. None of us had spoils right away at the end so it was a race for spoils as well but those troops stuck in the middle with no way out could not do much damage and by then I was receiving BZ bonuses.

How different this game could have been had those troops come into contact with mine earlier?
