This is a 30 player tournament modeled exactly on the (2012)-2013 NHL schedule. As you may know, a lockout cancelled the first half of the season from October to January, leaving teams with a 48 game regular season.
By entering this tournament, you are committing to playing 48 regular season 1 v 1 games against the other teams. At the conclusion of 48 games, the top 8 teams in the Eastern Conference and the top 8 teams in the Western Conference will make the playoffs. Each playoff round will be “best 4 of 7”. After 4 playoff rounds, we will have a champion.
Gameplay
Each player shall choose their NHL team and “home ice” settings. All games will be 1 v 1, automatic deploy, sunny, no trench, sequential, with a 20 round limit. But for your home map, you will choose: Map (no player may choose Hive) Spoils Reinforcements
In the regular season, each team will have 24 home games and 24 road games. Games will be sent out in 4 “batches” corresponding to the calendar months of January, February, March and April, and based on the actual NHL schedule. Because you are playing multiple games at once, this tournament is limited to premium players only.
The top eight teams in each conference qualify for the playoffs. The division winners in each conference are seeded 1, 2 and 3 based on point totals, and the remaining 5 teams are seeded from 4-8 based on point totals. In the event of a tie, the tiebreakers are: (1) most wins excluding games won due to round limit; (2) greater number of points earned against the club(s) you are tied with; (3) quickest victory in a game against the club(s) you are tied with; (4) tiebreaker game on Doodle Earth, automatic, sequential, escalating, chained, sunny, no trench, and no round limit.
In the playoffs, the higher-seed team will receive 4 home games, and the lower seeded team receives 3 home games during each playoff round. In each playoff round, the top seed plays the lowest seed; the 2nd best seed plays the 2nd worst seed, and so on. The first team to win 4 games advances to the next round.
Scoring
In the regular season, a win is worth 2 points. A team that loses before the round limit is reached receives 0 points. A team that loses due to round limits receives 1 point.
In the playoffs, if your team does not win in “regulation time” (20 turns), the result does not count. If no team has reached 4 wins in any playoff series because of games that were not won in “regulation time”, each game that did not count will go into “overtime”. Each overtime game will be a separate game on the Hive map, automatic, sequential, escalating, chained, sunny, no trench, and no round limit.

Each "day" of real world games are now being sent on one calendar day. This better approximates the flow of the season, and avoids you having 12 games start at once in large "batches"
Approximately once a week, 2 NHL days will be sent in the same calendar day. This will allow us to get about 2 weeks ahead of the real NHL schedule, so that we can we have time for all regular season games to finish, and that our playoffs can start at approximately the same time as NHL playoffs
The games intended for NHL day March 2nd were accidently sent out with the date of March 1st. This does not affect gameplay, so there is no need to issue a correction as long as you are aware of this development.
Any map/settings changes (as if your rich owner built a brand new arena) must be complete before real-world March 8th. After this date, half the season has passed, and the advantage of a different map going into playoffs becomes too strong. PM me if you need a change.
