Tournament-Clan-Mafia Overhaul

Post by JamesKer1 »

This is a very very very silly suggestion. Please disregard until I can fix it. :)
Spoiler
Tournaments, as of now, are pretty hard on a lot of people. Hard on TO’s to spend hours maintaining, inviting, and updating; hard on TD’s because of all the work to keep so many forums nice and clean, and hard on the players because of miscommunication and complexity, where some are hard to understand.

SO. I am proposing a mass overhaul of tournaments. These new tournament running settings would be a beautiful thing that could constantly be expanded on. As a basic, they would have 3 Stages: Recruiting, Ongoing, and Completed, much like we do now. There would be a general description, but also some new features to make everything a little bit easier.

RECRUITING STAGE:

Setup- TO will be prompted to specify a lot of settings. These settings include:
• Game Settings: Specify map, settings, number of entrants allowed
• Requirements: Premium Only, Turn Requirements, Points, Games Played
• Type: 1v1, Mixed, Sports League (saving TD’s some trouble on that one)
• Advanced Setup (described in to add later on section)

Title- Name of tournament, then automatically updates the player count (i.e, 17/24, 3/8 Teams, 15/16)

Description Area- Just like we have now in our forums, an area just to layout the basics of the tourney.

“Join” Button- Automatically Requests Players to join. If team games, names of teammates will be added upon application. A confirmation PM will be sent to each team member, and they will have to follow a link in the PM to the tourney and confirm.

Players Area- Just a list of players and reserves. It doesn’t need to be anything special, the only thing it needs is confirmed, waiting, and reserves sections.

Settings Area- This will specify all of the settings you selected in setup
Questions/Comments Area- This will look like the forum. Some TO’s may specify in the description that they want players to post info here, so best to leave it open (i.e Team Names, Looking for Teammate, etc.) This will also be a place for TD’s to ask questions about your tournament.

Other Additions- We will still have our colored pins that signify how old our tournament is like we currently do in the forums.

ONGOING STAGE:

Description- Same thing as recruiting stage

Player List- Same thing as recruiting, but the players can be divided into groups, pools, have a win count next to their name, and have a strikethrough when eliminated.

Questions/ Comments Area- Guess What? It’s the same thing as recruiting stage.

Attack/Setting Choice- If someone needs to choose a person to attack that round, this is where they would do it. Can be visible or invisible to other players. Also comes with a “Poke” button that sends a PM to those who haven’t put in attack choice yet.

Game Tracker- List of Games (with links), who they are against, win info, and the bracket (In “To Add Later On” Section)
• To keep this from getting too complicated, “spoilers” should be added in as an option to expand only on what games want to be seen (up to TO to organize this)

COMPLETED STAGE:

Description, Players, and Game Tracker- All the same as ongoing stage.

Winner- Below description, just says who the winner is and the date of completion.

HOW THIS MAKES THE LIFE OF TD’S EASIER:

-Tournaments automatically mark their time status

-Tournaments can automatically move from Ongoing to Completed

-Section only visible to TD’s and other volunteers with a list of tourneys requesting to start and requesting medals (TO will change the status in a button visible to them and TD’s only)

-Less Maintenance on their end overall with closing tourneys that go past 30 days (TD’s can extend if needed, but tournaments will automatically go to an abandoned tournaments section)

-Will check activity of TO, and will automatically be marked “Needs Rescue” after however long is desired.
-Proves Randomization was used (if randomization feature was added)

-Tournaments will finish faster and look nicer, attracting more player’s to the tournament world, and will help keep TO’s in the business. TD’s will also get to focus on other things instead of just tournaments constantly.

TO ADD LATER ON:
-Bracket (like Challonge.com)

-Spreadsheet Capabilities (like Google Docs)

-Automatic Randomizer of Names (Like random.org)

-Advanced Setup- you can choose whether to automatically add players to player list or to have them request, whether they can join as a single or not in team tourneys (and how many singles will be accepted), if there are attack/setting choices needed each round (and if they are visible or not) and the map or settings they need to choose.

-Auto Send Game Invites based on bracket or spreadsheet

OTHER APPLICATIONS:

Clans (I am not involved in one as of now so I don’t know how transferrable some of this is)

Mafia Games (Easy to see how this would fit in- Everyone can argue in questions/comments section, roles can be randomized and then sent out as PM’s at a click of a button by the mod instead of them having to send 20+ individual PM’s. There could also be a voting section.

If there are any issues or additions you have or would like to make, I know I probably didn’t clarify this very well. Will make a graphic representation of the layout later, but right now I’m too busy trying to manage my tournaments…
