Welcome to Betamarch. I hope to make this a repeating annual event. It has long been known that the majority of users don't offer input into the mapmaking process, they only play the maps. The idea of this is that it will (hopefully) spur players into thinking about the behind-the-scenes work that goes into cartography here at CC.

The maps that count as Beta for this year's challenge:

Maps may be added to the list as the month goes on.


NO SIGN-UPS REQUIRED - Everyone is eligible!
All you need to do is win at least one game started between March 1 and March 31 with the following settings:


Settings
Map: Any Beta Map
Players per game: Two (2)
Game Type: 1v1 or Polymorphic
Initial Troops: Automatic OR Manual
Play Order: Freestyle or Sequential
Spoils: Any
Reinforcements: Any
Special Gameplay: Any
Round Length: Casual or speed

Medal Criteria
You need at least 35 Points for the Medal
1 point for winning a 1v1 game
2 points for winning a polymorphic (doubles) game
3 points for winning a polymorphic (triples) game
4 points for winning a polymorphic (quads) game

5 points for a post in the map thread containing 1 thing you like about the map and 1 thing you dislike about the map.

Spam rules of the forum still apply. A maximum of 10 points can be scored for posts. You must have played on the map prior to the post.

The settings that must be present are 2 players (or polymorphic) and Beta Map.
Please double check and make sure you have all these settings set.
The other settings are open. Round Limits are not mandatory, but are recommended to make sure all games finish on time.

Games can finish up to one week after the end of the month.

Notes

• Games must start between CC Time: 2014-03-01 00:00:00 and CC Time: 2014-04-01 00:00:00 to be considered for the Challenge.
• Any issues will be solved by me, DoomYoshi and my word is final.

Who can play a Challenge?
All challenges are open to everyone, although freemiums may have a problem meeting the game load.

How do we join?
All you have to do is a)create games that meet the requirements or b)join games that meet the requirements. They can be private or public games. Team CC is not creating any games, the whole thing is done by users. There is a game-join link at the top of the first post.

What is the prize?
One of the rarest medals on the site, the Challenge medal. Challenges only come around once, if you miss it, you won't ever have another chance.

When do I get my prize?
Usually, a week after the month of the challenge, but for longer challenges it may take quite some time.


FAQS and Rulings
1. Tournament Games do not count
2. Wins by round limit count as normal wins.
3. Games can always have round limits but they never need to.

so i've been playing a lot of District of Alaska working towards my beta medal. i love this map the auto deploys make it so fun to play. my favorite way to make it extremely challenging and very fast paced is to set it for 1 minute speed game. the only thing i don't like on it is the date in the top of the map looks like 1990? is it 1890? any who here are my wins for the month of March.

is there any reason to make a poly 2 victory twice less worthy than a poly 4? the amount of "teammates" is proportionate to the size of the map in order to get the best balance. I think it's ludicrous to value differently each poly game... and good luck to keep track of the points that way! this is complicating stuff for no reason.

It takes twice as long to get through a round. Since these challenges place a premium on time (you need to finish by the 7th), anything that adds time also adds points.

I do agree that making it proportionate to the map makes sense. A large map usually takes longer than a short map as well though.

i love gallipoli, but it's too luck related in trips or quads, you can get kills way faster and you end it way faster if played larger than dubs. trench makes a game way longer, no doubt, not sure about the size of the teams; mostly in escalating, a quads is finished much faster than a dubs.
