Joffrey died the same way Violet did in Willy Wonka...by becoming a blueberry.

I think Joffrey's demise was brought about by his new wife and mother-in-law. If anyone noticed, she had gone earlier to Sansa and made a specific reference to the "red wedding", and how awful that was to kill someone at such an event.

They both made sure Maerjery didn't have to spend even one night with her little Caligula...

If I had a list of who I thought did it, I'd go:

1. The Starks (or another northern family allied with the Starks) - why did that guy (don't know/remember who he was) tell Sansa to leave if she wants to live?
2. The Martells - obviously because Oberyn wanted vengeance on the Lannisters
3. The Tyrells - because Joffrey was fucking crazy and they want to spare Margaery

Also, the whole "Tyrion gonna die" thing doesn't really hold water because I'd have to imagine Margaery, who now becomes Queen Regent, would release him, right?

The marriage technically wasn't consummated so Margaery isn't really queen. So for now Tywin Lannister is running the kingdom with Cersei as queen regent. Even if she was queen technically she couldn't afford to release Tyrion. Too much backlash for releasing the man who poisoned the king. Now they could arrange for Tyrion to be sent to The Wall rather than face death but even that would rub some people as being too soft. Basically the farther south, you are the more The Wall becomes a joke. The north respects The Wall which is why about half of the Wall is stocked with Northmen and the majority of non-convicts are from the North. The Riverlands and The Veil have also tended to hold the Wall in high regard. Baratheons don't make much mention of The Wall at least until Stannis gets involved but they seem to have an alright respect for it. The Tyrells (second-most southern kingdom) don't really seem to give a crap about The Wall except for Randall Tarly who at least seems to accept that they are fighters unlike the Septons and the Maesters of the Citadel but I've always gotten the impression that his views on that matter are the exception within Highgarden. Dorne is the southernmost kingdom and they don't seem to care much about The Wall either. It gets mentioned that it is very rare to see a Dornishman on the wall. The Lannisters who are west of Kingslanding seem to have the least amount of respect for The Wall out of anyone.

It can still be consummated if you know what I mean.

The new king is Joffery's brother. Someone will have to be regent because he's so young, but do you really think that Cersi is going to let it be Margaery?

It's also pretty obvious who really poisoned the brat king isn't it? And Margaery isn't gong to be able to get Tyrion off the hook either, in fact, Tyrion makes a nice little scapegoat.

For those of you who haven't read the books, get ready because it's going to be a crazy ride from here. For you poor bastards I foresee a bunch of "WTF?" moments....

Heh heh.

Good episode, it's about time that prick Joffrey bought the farm. It was a fitting end to the bastard child.

I don't know. I won't say if it was stated here or elsewhere but I've already ran into one person who guessed it perfectly about what happened and even partially about the motivation behind the move. I didn't confirm it to him but I didn't have a great poker face either.

Ha ha...I had to go back and look a few times. But it happens right in front of our faces. Watch very closely. The dialog at the time is quite ironic considering the situation.

First, If you are watching every movement, you will see the poison being acquired. Shortly after, from a distance, and using sound to confirm it, you see/hear the poison being delivered. It's so subtle, you'd miss it if you blinked.

Except, Cercei doesn't get to call the shots anymore than Joffery did. Tywin's the one who's in real control.

I'm not a huge fan of it. Nor do I really understand why she cares so much.
Her practically being her brother's slave might have had something to do with it.
You would know about that wouldn't you? Ohhh solid burnnnnn.

It's not a matter of what Cersei wants, it's what the law allows/what Tywin wants.

I didn't consider the whole marriage-consummation thing so ok, maybe Margaery won't become Queen Regent, but I wouldn't think that Tywin will allow Cersei back into control, right?

No one wants Cercei in control, everyone knows that would be a nightmare. The marriage was never about about Joffery or margaery, it was about Lannister and Tyrell. Margaery will still become Queen Regent if/when she marries Tommen in Joffery's stead.

i saw that comming from way back, I said early in season 3 that maergery was a smart one and that she was getting there and would assassinate joffrey when the time comes.
but now it doesn't make much sense if it doesn't give her any power if she isn't considered queen regent?... did the tyrell miss that move? I doubt they could be so smart and stupid at the same time.

so that strange guy is taking sansa away? I'm pretty sure sansa will end up with baelish either way.

and the shae episode... i don't get it... it's all presented as if this was going to have an importance at some point... so if tyrion dies... she kind of becomes a moot character?

I've never been happier to watch somebody die. So glad that little cunt is dead. It's too bad Arya couldn't be the one to do it, though.

I kind of feel sorry for the actor, Jack Gleeson. I think it might be hard for him to live this role down. I know I wouldn't be able to see him as anything other than a cuntbag. Certainly wouldn't be able to take any other roles of his seriously.

You have to admit that it's a spectacular performance by him though. Fans hate him with an undying passion which is probably exactly what George RR Martin wanted.

Oh, sure, he's a great actor. He played the part perfectly. I just get the feeling it might be the death of his career, a la Mark Hammil with Star Wars.

From what I understand, Jack Gleeson has already stated that he plans on "retiring" after this role. He's afraid of getting typecast and that he'll never be able to follow it up with another great role (a la Mark Hamill). Cash your cheque, and run.

Margaery cannot become Queen Regent. According to succession, Tommen becomes the new king, and Margaery is Tommen's aunt-by-marriage, whereas Cersei is Tommen's mother. Cersei remains Queen Regent, until/unless Tywin manages to wed her to Loras.

Tywin remains Hand, and will use this to further force Cersei out of power.

As for the Shae storyline... how convinced are you that she is gone?
for people who have read the books
Did anyone else find it very odd that they re-wrote the Jaime story-arc to have him arrive prior to the wedding? I'm curious as to how this affects the upcoming events.
