I kind of feel sorry for the actor, Jack Gleeson. I think it might be hard for him to live this role down. I know I wouldn't be able to see him as anything other than a cuntbag. Certainly wouldn't be able to take any other roles of his seriously.
You have to admit that it's a spectacular performance by him though. Fans hate him with an undying passion which is probably exactly what George RR Martin wanted.
Oh, sure, he's a great actor. He played the part perfectly. I just get the feeling it might be the death of his career, a la Mark Hammil with Star Wars.
From what I understand, Jack Gleeson has already stated that he plans on "retiring" after this role. He's afraid of getting typecast and that he'll never be able to follow it up with another great role (a la Mark Hamill). Cash your cheque, and run.

but now it doesn't make much sense if it doesn't give her any power if she isn't considered queen regent?... did the tyrell miss that move? I doubt they could be so smart and stupid at the same time.
so that strange guy is taking sansa away? I'm pretty sure sansa will end up with baelish either way.
and the shae episode... i don't get it... it's all presented as if this was going to have an importance at some point... so if tyrion dies... she kind of becomes a moot character?
Margaery cannot become Queen Regent. According to succession, Tommen becomes the new king, and Margaery is Tommen's aunt-by-marriage, whereas Cersei is Tommen's mother. Cersei remains Queen Regent, until/unless Tywin manages to wed her to Loras.
Tywin remains Hand, and will use this to further force Cersei out of power.
As for the Shae storyline... how convinced are you that she is gone? for people who have read the books
Did anyone else find it very odd that they re-wrote the Jaime story-arc to have him arrive prior to the wedding? I'm curious as to how this affects the upcoming events.
ok; so is tommen officially the new boy-king now? he is even more meaningless than rickion or his sister whose name i've forgotten of.
by the way... what are the relationships between dorn and highgarden? they are neighbours, so are they more like allies or long time rivals? I don't understand the Tyrell plot. the Martell plot looks very promissing too. is sir loras in love with the martell prince by the way?
regarding shae.... ahhhhh no come on! so i guess the poor tyrion is not just going to die, they will make him see how they torture her and get her raped by dogs. this is just so fucked up about tyrion, from what I know of a favorite character for 90% of the people following this. oh and sansa willjust see how her midget husband is humiliated and how she gets humiliated by the same occasion again. I think her self esteem is soon going to be close to theon's... lol
but did she leave or not???
and where the hell is littlefinger, he wasn't at the wedding?? ohhhh.... f*ck that's true!!!! he went to see lysa arryn tully to seduce her and marry her???? so arya is getting there brought by the hound, and littlefinger will bump into her and immediately ceize the opportunity for something...
I may need to stop reading this thread...I know too much. Tommen and Myrcella being overshadowed until this point was kind of necessary for how the books proceeded. They will start getting a bit more recognition soon.

I feel very sorry for Jack Gleason. He did play the role very well. Forget about being typecast. Can you imagine how it must feel to be one of the most hated people in the world? I know it is only a TV show...but, as you can see, many people are very much into it. People have strong emotional connection with some of the characters, probably because of the intense story, shocking violence, etc..And just as strongly as folks love the Starks, or who ever they love, most everyone certainly hates Joffrey. Everywhere this guy goes, I am sure he is greeted as Joffrey. There are a lot of people that can't separate character and actor. He is said to be one of the nicest people in reality. I heard he was involved with humanitarian efforts, like helping the earthquake victims in Haiti. He wants to do more of that. I know many people do charity work, but in this case, I wonder if it isn't some sort of over-compensation. His face is associated with some terrible, terrible things..things that he didnt actually do in real life, but I bet people give him the real hate. And now he is giving up acting to help the less fortunate? He must be relieved to be dead.
ok; so is tommen officially the new boy-king now? he is even more meaningless than rickion or his sister whose name i've forgotten of.
Yup, that's how the line of succession works, although some parts of Westeros honor female heirs, that would make it awkward considering Marcella is older than Tommen...

The latter. Dorne and Highgarden have a long history of mistrust, and war. In fact Highgardens pretty down right racist towards Dorne.
No I don't think that Loras/Oberyon is something you should read too much into.

Ok thanks. Loras looked at oberyon in a gay way and jaimie caught that, and given that oberyon is bisexual...
Regarding that jack gleesom guy; i just loved to hate him. Joffrey has been such a horrible person in some scenes, and there are some mimics he did that were so absolutely brilliant that i had to rewatch them a few times because they were just too funny.
So what s wrong about being the bad guy?? What s up with actors that are afraid of a role? Jack gleesom should just continue playing bad guy parts. He should also do comedy. This guy has a huge humouristic potential. He could be the next austin powers super bad guy or the next james bond super bad guy. He has credibility for these two kind of roles, and i m sure he can widen his spectrum to tragic independent movie good guy roles. Lead good guy character? Nope.

I would hope not.
Did anyone catch how the poison happened? I know how it worked in the books, but i was looking pretty hard and didn't' see it happen, all i can assume is that i wasn't watching soon enough.

I thought it would be a lot different but they got to the wedding quick enough that it didn't matter as much. Other changes will probably have a bigger impact.

I doubt it will change much. I think it was largely to give the actor more to do in the show and so he could be present to witness his sons death, which I thought was a nice touch. I'm interested to see if they go into more with Shae after the trial. In the book it was really ambiguous as to whether she was conspiring with Twin before or after Tyrion was arrested. It seems like they're expanding her significance in the show so it would really surprise me if that went unanswered in the show.
Regarding Jack Gleason and why he's quitting acting, I think it has much more to do with his feelings on Hollywood, fame, and celebrity culture in general than his own personal experience and fear of being type cast. He's a very smart individual, and has spoken on the subject on several occasions. If you are interested about why he is leaving the acting profession, and want to hear it from him I suggest you watch this video.
It's an interesting talk and it lets you in on how smart he is... and yeah I think he's happy to be done with the show, and I think he genuinely enjoyed getting to go out the way he did.

how the poisoning happened
you have to look really close. Right when Tyrion first gets to the reception table...Olenna Tyrell comes to talk to Sansa. Watch her hands. First, she grabs Sansa's braids. Then..she grabs at Sansa's Necklace. Watch her subtly pull off one of the gems. They show Sansa's necklace after, and you can see..one of the gems is indeed missing. You can clearly see one is suppose to be there but it is gone. As she finishes speaking to her...watch as the camera pans way back, like you are sitting in the crowd looking at the table. You see Olenna walking back towards her table..across the front of the tables. Watch her right elbow make a small movement as she is walking in front of a table..and at the same time listen for the sound that syncs up with her movement. It sounds similar to ice hitting the side of a glass. It is the gem from Sansa's necklace going into Joffrey's vase of wine..not his cup, but where his cup is filled from. It's all very subtle, but it is there and it matches up. It also explains Sir Dontos coming to Sansa before Joffrey is even finished dying.
It's so great, because she is giving her condolences for Robb Stark and saying how wrong it was to kill him at a wedding. What kind of monster would kill someone at a wedding(as she is acquiring the poison she is using to kill someone at a wedding)

Haha, and Sansa is none the wiser. Now, this isn't exactly gotten into in the books too much yet, but I'm pretty sure that the Martells don't actually want to rule Westeros. Their loyalty lay with the Targareans and what's her name, the mother of dragons, as does the spider's. They are eliminating the false kings and preparing the way for the Mother of dragons or her (thus far in the TV series, unrevealed) other secret brother's invasion of Westeros. I'm pretty sure the Martells are loyal subjects of the true ruling family and they are simply doing what they can for their exiled rulers. One thing, though, it was the Martells behind the poisoning. Oh yeah, and the spider is in on the poisoning to, we'll see that later on this season I'd bet. He may not have a sell sword or a legendary brother to protect him as he pointed out to the dwarf, but the eunuch is pretty handy with a crossbow.....

I'm a little confused Patches. Given that you're posting in the spoilers I take it that you read the books. So you should know that it was Little Finger who conspired with Olenna and not Vary's. I don't believe the Tyrells are really holding out for the Targareons. I could be wrong about that. It's true that they did remain loyal to the Targareans in the past, but I think they are just grabbing power when and where they can get it.

Opps, I meant the Tyrells, not the Martells were responsible for the poisoning, I get the family names mixed up sometimes. I think the Martells are pro targarean as well. I know for a fact that Varys is helping either the the mother of Dragons, her long lost brother or both. Yes, Littlefinger conspired with Olenna, he's the one who gets Sansa out after all, but he's not loyal to the Targareans at all, he's looking to rule it all himself. The Tyrells and Littlefingers aims coincide a bit in that they both wanted Joffrey out so they worked together at that. But there have been hints in the books about certain parties Westeros that are still loyal to the Targareans. Thus far all that has been revealed for certain is that Varys is working on the Targarean behalf. But one or more of the great houses is as well. I believe that to be the Martells and Tyrells.
I think they are trying to position events to make it easier for either Aegon Targaryen or Daenerys Targaryen (or both) to come back and reclaim the throne. At the end of the last book Aegon has landed in Westeros and begun conquering the Stormlands.
I believe it will be revealed in the next book that it was the Tyrells who have been working all along to get the Targaryen's back to the throne.
Littlefinger on the other hand, he's not to be trusted (and isn't) by anyone, nor is he to be underestimated. Hell, Littlefinger might have wanted Joffrey dead just because the dead king's mother Cersi threatened him. That probably pissed Littlefinger off.
But we know that Varys is working for the Targaryens, and that Varys wants Cersi as Queen regent because she's so incompetent.
The Martells on the other hand, they hate the Lannisters, I think they are certainly loyal to the Targaryens. I am pretty sure they want the Targaryens back in power. They probably are the great house helping brother and/or sister across the sea and perhaps the Tyrells are just in it for themselves. They do tend to be more pragmatic than the Martells. But Tyrell owes their rising to the Targaryens, being elevated to ruler of the former house Gardener (now extinct due to proximity to dragon breath). So I think (but can't be certain) that they are secretly loyal to the Targaryen line. We'll see soon enough I suppose.

Ah gotcha. Yes I agree the Martells absolutely want the Targaryens back in power and are actively conspiring with the spider to make it happen. In fact there's a leaked Arianne chapter from the 6th book out that you should check out. They have very little influence under the current administration and aren't powerful enough to survive independently. They truly are in a very tenuous position. That of course isn't well reflected by Oberyon's brazen behavior. I'm hoping Doran and Arianne Martell make it into season 5.
As for your theory on the Tyrell's, it's interesting but I'm not convinced. I think they've gotten to the point they are by allying themselves with whoever can take them the farthest. When the Targaryens came they saw that it was futile to resist, so they joined them and were rewarded by being made the wardens of the reach. When Roberts rebellion was over they quickly swore fealty to the new king. When Robert died, they sided with the ever popular Renly. When Renly died they jumped right back to team Lanister.
I think they're only interested in themselves. Any alliance they make is only to promote their own status. So I don't think they're waiting for the Targaryens to return, they're trying to grab their own power however they can get it.
Okay seriously don't read any of these spoilers being posted. They are big! Spoiler
Honestly, I am still not convinced that it really is Aegon Targaryan but I am probably being stubborn as I don't particularly care for that story line. Honestly, I actually don't try to read Varys' motivations. It's not the first time he has lied about his intentions and he can be the sneakiest character in the series when he wants to be. If I remember right Varys knew that Olenna planned to poison Joffrey and may have had an inkling that Littlefinger was behind the plan but chose to do nothing because eliminating Joffrey did not go against Varys' plans.

Are we the only 2 guys here watching the show and who have never read the books?
It would be quite empty if they all leave... But damn they are annoying with their secret conversations!
I haven't read the books. Only reason I used a spoiler was because the guy before me did while asking a question, and in case someone hasn't figured out who did the poison yet, and didn't want me to tell them. Although, all I did was point out what was shown on the TV.

Well, as per the title, you are allowed to spoil anything you ve seen in the show!
People enter and read at their own risk if they haven t seen the latest episode. By the way, nice catch i didn t notice all those details. I just had no doubt the tyrells did it.
By the way... I didn t know there even was a mr tyrell still, surprised to see this character revealed. The tyrells were very feminine so far, maergery and her grandmother, and loras the gay knight.
So what s up with loras and maergery s parents? This family is quite mysterious.

Their sigil is a fucking rose, of course they're feminine.
And I was convinced Joff died because he ate raw dove...
I thought it might be the pie at first, but watching a second time, I noticed servants brought pie to the entire wedding party.
Something else that was suspicious to me. Varys...something is bothering him. He knows something that we don't know. my guess. maybe you should wait until after the next episode
