I clicked on a couple of the past stream of spoilers and decided they were way too advanced for where we are in the show and even the books right now. We've mostly used spoilers to discuss how scenes in the show are going to affect impending events, but these spoilers are getting really far beyond that and would be better served in their own thread.
On an entirely different note, I just finished rewatching season 1. There's something that always bothered me about Jaime Lannister being captured by Robb and that entire storyline, which I finally figured out.
Why the f*ck is Jaime Lannister, as a member of the Kingsguard, allowed to ride out of King's Landing, don Lannister red armour, and participate in Tywin's war against Robb Stark? He's not defending the King, he's not defending the realm, he's not serving the king's justice, he's being a Lannister fighting in a Lannister war. So why was he allowed to leave and participate without anyone questioning it? Further, he's raised to captain of the Kingsgaurd while he's a captive!
When Sandor Clegane bails on King's Landing in season 2, he is stripped of his post as a member of the Kingsguard. Why not treat Jaime the same?
Everything except him donning the lannister armor can easily be explained, Sandor left without permission, we have to assume that Lord Tywin being the hand of the king himself took care of the neccesary paperwork before his son joined him. As Patches said it's been done in times of war before. Jaimie wasn't fighting in a lannister war, Rob's rebellion was against King Joffrey, not Lord Tywin. Tywin's forces are only aiding the king in his own succession war. perfectly legit reason to send a Kingsguard away for. Can't explain why he is allowed to take off his Kingsguard armor though, seems to be a bit of a hole in the logic.
Him being appointed captain of the kingsguard while not in kings landing doesn't bother me and I don't see why that would not be possible, why is that such a big deal?
Well there's a reason it's between spoiler tags. What do you mean "where we are in the books right now"? We have to assume that people who have read the books have read them up until the latest one that has been released. It was released three years ago so everyone has had plenty of time to read it by now. We can't assume the book readers have only read up until the fourth book, the fourth book was released nine years ago.
A new thread would never take off, I don't see the problem, if someone hasn't read the books all he needs to do is not read the spoilers, if someone hasn't read all the available books he also probably shouldn't read the spoilers. I know it's tempting to peek, and I would be very tempted to peek as well if I hadn't read them, but there's not a lot of blatant spoiling going on. You can always try to read between the lines of the book readers and guess who lives and who doesn't, but unless it's being bluntly stated you can't know whether you're just imagining it or not.
