Still it's hardly record breaking stuff. I saw Blade when I was 11, IIRC.
By contrast the thread about Bush getting dictatorial powers only has 4 pages. Go figure.
It's too awful to be true. Like the holocaust in the 40's.
Someones been watching Colbert?
Yes, but in the late 30's and early 40's many newspapers thought the holocause was so bad it would drive consumers away, so they put such articles as "250,000 dead in germany" on page 8 to not sway away readers.
Didn't do jack to shield our boys in the field from seeing it first hand. And later the truth became quite public. I'd say that before Hitler and Stalin, genocide and pogoms weren't all that popular. And today we see it happening all over this planet. Cambodia, Bosnia, the Middle East (mainly the Iraqis gasing the Kurds) and many more that escape me at the moment. I'd say those two are responcible for most of the world's current problems. Hunter Clark, who I use in my sigy, would state that France is just as responcible.

"Give a man a fire and he will be warm for a day. Set a man on fire and he will be warm for the rest of his life"- Something Hunter would say

Hmm... A little naiive, don't you think? Mankind has always sought to wipe out segments of itself. The Jewish pogroms throughout medieval Europe is a prime example. The Crusades is another. I think what you see as the advent of genocide is in fact just the advent of sufficient technology to make such mass killing a viable and easy option. Men just as evil as Hitler and Stalin have existed throughout time, and if they had the technology Hitler had they would quite probably have perpetrated the same sort of crimes. If the Roman Emperors could have herded the early Christians into gas chambers so quickly and easily do you not think they would have done?

Concidering that they enjoyed watch them be torn to bloody chunks by wild beasts..... I think they would have preferred that over gas chambers and ovens. For the most part, violence has been used simpy to take something away from some other group, not simply to murder anyone and everyone in a given area. Sure, it happened in the past on occation, but both Hitler and Stalin, for sincere desire for better terminology, made genocide and pogoms fashionable, so to speak.

your right they have truly mastered the technique,
Pillaging has gone a long way since the Vandals,
Now instead of taking over you appoint someone to do your bidding that the natives wont mind(as much)
ah, the killing fields....
One bad thing about technology is that the collateral damage has gone way up. Wish they still killed eachother with sharp sticks, afterward we could dig holes with our new shovels and write a comedy, or eulogy.

i think another aspect of the issue that hasnt been touched on....we are still kind of new to this whole political state process. In a lot of different areas there were frequent problems, some on mass scales from time to time, but it really wasnt until the adoption of the nation-state, that we started to get some issues of people who arent normally put together all of the sudden part of one or two soverign countries. I think this actually plays a rather large role and is often overlooked.
Cowboys are very much hardly existance anymore. But then again, jesus isn't existance anymore.
So hmm.
I beg to differ with you on this: Cowboys are still very much around. I agree it is not like the old westerns movies, but there are still plenty of cowboys around.
The teacher should know better than to show rated R movie to 12 year old children.
Yes, children will see things worse than that, but it should not be shown at a school. I for one, am glad they sued the teacher.

This is what I have been saying. The teacher did wrong, but this is the only thing she did wrong. She showed an R rated movie to twelve year olds. Whether or not a lawsuit needed to be filed is a different story, but I don't want to get into that…

I am curious to how many of you have children?
It makes all the difference in the world if you do.
I have 4 boys, and I think it is our place as parents to let our children know about issues like this and not the school.

what if you are a child, like me? I don't want to be sheilded from the world and treated like a baby.
no offense, your children are probably younger than me, so they should be shielded.

I don't shield my children from issues that they will face in life.
The way I look at it is each child is different, and each child grows mentally and physically different. A parent knows when it is the right time to talk to their children. I have never shielded my boys and I have a very trusting relationship with each one of them. They know they can come to me or their father with any thing.
Well, I will be presenting a biased view for all of this. I am very liberal, and I was exposed to everything at a younger age. I believe I rolled my first joint when I was one or two. I have always lived around homosexuals. ect.

Bullshit. Nobody does it that early.
I never said I smoked it. My dad was rolling one, and I wanted to try, so he let me. But I didn't smoke it.

My sons are 24,22,13, and 8.
won't they face homosexuality in life?

i think 12 is maybe a bit young, cause maybe some kids might not have gone through all the nessarsery(sp) changes, but if your going to show them something like that then do it at home- the school has no right to do that, its the parents choice if they want the kid to see it.

any 12 year old who gets disturbed by that is under extreme mollycoddling
i'm 13, and would personally rather like to see it.
