how come the red section - 5 countries 2 borders gets a bonus of 3 while the green section same countries, same borders only gets 2??

An actual answer: comparative board position. Think expansion potential, etc.

thanks for that answer, its a freaking tournament and the map was thrust upon us. I guess you are the sort of person who thinks that anybody with a different opinion to yours is dumb. GROW UP. too many kids on this site.
