A picture says a thousand words.
A video even more.

I guess you claim you live in England.(?)
I guess you claim you know more than American media.
I guess you make statements with no support... no links
from other sources agreeing with you.

So therefore you know way better than me?

Was it race related? Absolutely.
Was poverty and opportunity (or lack thereof) also a factor? Definitely.
Are there other social factors? Ethnicity, Education Level, Religion? Sure.

Would most people generally call those riots "race riots" in these same vein as
race riots in other parts of the world? Yes.
Would those roits be

I do live in England, and did so at the time of the riots.
I guess you claim you know more than American media.
You mean the people who said Birmingham, UK is a Muslim city which Christians can't enter?
I guess you make statements with no support... no links
from other sources agreeing with you.
I thought I was expressing something which was already clearly established years ago. Go do your own reading.
So therefore you know way better than me?
I wouldn't have said that before you joined in with this thread, but I would now.

race riots in other parts of the world? Yes.
Those people don't know much about the 2012 riots.

You are now Player to me.

Player being the crazy woman who used to play around in this Forum.
She had some numbers after her name, but I can't be bothered to look them up.

She also had the habit of making statements and claims based on her "experience" without any supporting info or logical arguments to back these up. She was completely nuts.

You are now put into that same box until further notice.
(I think Saxi is the only one with the keys to let you out.)

We all make statements based on our experience... that's fine. What you are not doing is supporting those statements with examples or reasons as to why we should believe your claims against other "media" claims. In this instance for example, you claim the London Race Riots, were not race riots. You state that American Media is wrong. You don't provide examples of alternative media. You say you lived in London at the time. You don't provide examples of what you actually saw, with your own eyes, that contradict "Fox News". Then... you don't bother explaining your alternative theory as to what caused said riots, since they "clearly" were not racial.

... btw we could get into a debate about the difference between a race riot and an ethnic riot if you want. I'll argue that for the purposes of this thread, they are the same thing.

Finally... to end this conversation. The whole thread is about which country is best. Dukasuar stated Canada was better (in part) because he's never seen a Race Riot there. Fine. You said England never had "race riots"... trying to counter his argument. However London has had riots recently, so even if you win the argument, and those London riots were not "race riots", you still lose the point of your argument. A place with riots of any kind; racial, ethnic, class, etc... has a mark against it compare to a place with no riots. END. WIN. JIM 1.

(As an aside I recall Canada had some Native American tensions, that nearly escalated into conflict [or more] at some point in the last decade or so. So maybe they have had "race riots". Quick search... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_River_land_dispute Probably a stretch to call it a "riot".)

They were riots that were justified by the initial rioters as a 'protest' against racial profiling by the police, but rapidly spiraled into opportunistic looting in London and other cities, with rioters no longer even pretending they were upset about some sort of cause. As you might expect there has been plenty of BBC coverage of the riots. I watched a couple of documentaries recently in which rioters talked about how the riots were a chance to feel some power, kick out at the system and/or have some fun. No one mentioned race, no one mentioned feeling aggrieved about race.

Okay, now it's my turn:

Feel free to put forward even a few sentences explaining why the London riots were race riots.

And in any case:

No I don't. Duk's point was about racial harmony and tolerance, one sign of which was that Canada doesn't have race riots. If London doesn't have race riots either then my point is totally valid. London is also a very tolerant place.

Weather?
Says the guy from a city with a garbage/snow pile that lasted until... August?

We've had riots in Canada. When the Canucks lost the Stanley Cup to the Bruins. Also, when the G20/G8 shit happens, we get all the dreadlocked Swedish ladyboys stirring up shit here, same as anywhere else.

... um sounds like a "race riot".

A riot, by definition, is something that has "spiraled" out of control.

It was started because of race.

... also you ignored the points about it not mattering whether it was a race-riot, or just an opportunistic "let's get some free tires" kind of riot. Either kind would make London a less pleasant place to live than say Toronto.

Go home.

So non-race riots are OK?

... oh and BTW, I still maintain they were race riots.

Can we get a vote?
Should I create a poll?

I forgot about that.

We haven't had many sports-related riots since some teenager girl died after the Sox won in 2004.

... says the guy from the only US city where all four major sports have won a Championship (at least once) in the past 10 years.

Duk's point was about racial harmony. In the context of his point it is specifically race riots that matter, not riots of any kind.

I guess ignorance is blissful.
