Please don't laugh at my pronunciation ... sent PM to Duk and I'm posting it here so you can laugh... but please don't LOL...

I so suck in speaking English...

BTW if it opens you a "next" video after recitation, try not to laugh at it either

A very brave attempt! No lulz here. It sounded very sincere. Your accent is heavy but every word is understandable!

So just to be clear, the poem need not have anything to do with Flanders, just CC in general? :?

Yes you gave it your best, and no I am not laughing at all.your accent says maybe you have seen first hand other fields not Flanders but some with no name. And your English was better than some who think they do very well, so no one should ever laugh at your recital,

Correct. For the written contest and the facebook contest, it need not have any connection to In Flanders Fields.

For the recitation contest, it does.

Hi everyone! This event is a very cool tribute to those that fell in WWI, and a very neat idea as far as the CC-themed poetry.

Please go to the facebook link and read my poem. If you enjoy any part of it, just hit the 'like' button. I know you can all identify with the thoughts that I have put into my poem, so let me know if you like it.

Thanks to the team for another great opportunity to get more involved.
Happy Hunting.

52 minutes left if you want to take a crack at it.

I can't believe there have only been two entries. Are there really so few people with microphones on their computer that they can't take a crack at a simple poetry recital? Unless somebody steps up in the next 52 49 minutes, I won't even be able to give away 3rd prize.

So it's just me and Dakky? Really? HA! Congrats dakky, we've won! :D

I would've been interested to hear some "canadian pride" put into the recital. Maybe if you'd extend the deadline and give a mass PM...who knows? Put a small note there that the only two participants reciting a great canadian poem are a romanian and a croatian...maybe it'll work...:)))

PS: did my bid and put a link to this post to some guys from Canada that I'm currently "sparring" with...:D

Actually, people are shy. If I didn't drank a gallon of wine before I got home, you wouldn't have my recital as well ;) I bet at least 75% of the users have microphones, but no one wants to be heard or for others to know how their voice sounds. It's a part of being anonymous, that's why people are hiding behind nicknames.

Anyway, I don't need the credits (use them for another event), but can't wait for the GA as that medal will move me to the 2nd place in GA achievements overall on site (tied with 33 medals with Gilligan & Betiko) =D> ... and I still didn't received a GA for the last Official Mafia game won... :) so only 3 short to Swifte with 37 GA's :)

Well dak if you get 2nd and 3 It will be a bonus for you, btw not everyone hides behind nicknames I use a form of my real name and have the courage to stand by what I say because of it, my opinions are my own and if someone shows me I am wrong I admit it, the hiding behind nicknames and or usernames seems to allow others to say some stupid crap, that normally they wouldn't dare utter, maybe that in itself is a freedom For them.

The OP mentioned to film yourself and post the video, so I think most people didn't want to show their faces :P Might have got more had you said to just do an audio recording.

Well, they could have just done a simple graphic with a voiceover, but I guess you're right.

I just figured most of these kids nowadays know a lot more about techie stuff than I do, so I figured there was no sense trying to specify how to do it, and that most of them would figure out their method.

[spoiler]Conquer Club, you vexing vice,
Random my butt, you rolls of the dice.
Loving the expectation, waiting for my turn,
Envisioning another adversary burn.
Hating to see when things go south,
knowing in chat to watch my mouth.
The maps, settings, and choices galore,
choose wisely in order to increase your score.
It’s an uphill battle, to the Conqueror rank,
so pace yourself and be sure to thank
the Conquer Club gods through your sacrifice,
then you may get some favorable dice.
It’s thankless, pointless, and a waste of time,
but that won’t stop you from spending your dime.
So take your binary armies to task,
attack that superior army and raise your flask.
Toast the ones that fall, the lame,
and cheer out loud when you win the game.
Because Conquer Club like love and war,
is on your mind, in your blood, evermore.

[spoiler]Conquer club is the place to be,
For games of skill and strategy.
Plan your moves, roll the dice
And hope the conquer gods are nice.

If you like quick games then speed is for you,
With 5 minute turns, even 3 or 2.
If u need longer 24hr turns is the way,
Plenty of time to plan out your play.

With lots of settings like zombie or flat,
Or foggy or trench if you're in to that.
There are tournaments galore to test your skill
With prizes and medals for more of a thrill.

There are forums to read, mafia games for fun,
2 chat rooms if u want to talk to someone.
Thats it for me I have turns to play,
Conquer club is awesome what more can I say.

[spoiler]Desolation, isolation, perspiration .....

All alone and bathed in sweat, I am watching my screen
Once I was a Brigadier, now just a has-been
The Gods of Dice have shook me up and caused me loads of grief
And then a cook comes along and takes me like a thief

A sergeant then a cook, my life is full of woe
Another invitation - I really can't say no
Another game, another go, another pointless fight
Another roll, another loss, I play into the night

And as the sands of time run past, I make a vow out loud
To stand up tall and soak it in, to make myself so proud.
And off I go, click by click, and climb that hill so steep
And slowly rise back to the top, my rank I aim to keep

My goal is now to conquer, those that feel the same
For what else do we have? CC is our game :)

[spoiler]Ode to the Dice Gods

It’s time to fight,
To flex your might
You scan the list of possible foes
Some are pros, others, average Joes
But you can tell by the rank
Who has the most points to bank
Pick a time and place, any map you like
And prepare for your first strike

With cannon thunder the war starts
Take aim at your enemy’s hearts
In the first stages
The battle rages
Survival requires large swaths of land
A place to draw your line in the sand
So pick a spot in the corner with few borders
Easy to defend, easy to send out attack orders

You roll across bloody fields,
Oh, the power this army yields!
The weak are easily cast aside
“Good Game” you think in snide
And then only the strong remain
Each with a considerable domain
You grind your army to a halt
It’s time to see who’s worth their salt

Far away someone goes for the kill
While you use the Fog to hide your skill
In secret, you move about
The win is yours without a doubt
Finally, it gets down to one on one
And with a turn of the cards it is done
One by one they fell and you feel like you fought well
But it was the dice gods who decided heaven and hell
