As some of you may or may not have noticed, I created a new thread every day of the month of May. Some were serious, some were silly, some I had no idea what I was talking about, like the thread with the Excel question. Wait, what am I talking about, you ask? Yeah, that Excel question was completely over my head, I didn't understand it whatsoever. It wasn't my question - it's a question that Wicked asked. Back in 2007.

Yes, I created 31 new threads, which were all stolen verbatim from original threads back in 2006 or 2007. Even my Memorial Day thread - stolen. I did this to further illustrate my issue with necrobumping in this forum. While some mods have posted that they take a very relaxed view of necrobumping, with TeeGee even getting in on the fun, others have alluded to being against it, and that 9 or 10 year old threads should stay dead.

Now, the majority of my threads were active. They contributed to the forum. Some sparked debate, some were ignored, some were just plain stupid, but all were allowed, most likely without a thought given to them, because they were "new". And I have to ask, why? The original Tips On Women thread has 29 posts; mine has 23. Would it have been so bad to simply bump the old one? What harm would have been caused? Instead, we have 31 new threads in this forum which are simply copies of previous thread. And for the first week or so, some responses written in my threads were plagiarized from the original threads as well.

We're all just ignorantly wasting time in an endless Chinese Room dilemma, rehashing the same trite opinions with no point of enlightened advance or retreat. No one here is any different than their precursors, or even themselves of days past, and not one topic has been definitively put to rest. Even my current pleas will inevitably fall on deaf ears because free will is just an illusion, and we're just destined to dance along the limited steps until we reunite with entropy, nothing better or worse from all our experiences.

Perhaps in 10 years someone (perhaps even serbia) will start this same discussion again.

Actually, that would be really awesome. In fact, I wonder if this entire discussion has happened before in this forum.

EDIT - This discussion has happened multiple times. Search term "necrobumping." No one has gone to the lengths that serbia has.

EDIT 2 - Is it weird that I want to go back and read all those old threads? I miss those discussions.

To me it really depends on the original thread.

Before I get into it - my opinion is I don't REALLY honestly care about this subject and wouldn't oppose it or be upset about any necrobump unless someone blatantly went thru and bumped a bunch of old topics with "bump" just to drown out the new topics.

Other than that my feelings on the topic are:
1) does the original thread have anything to add to the current discussion (meaning, if all it is, is non relevant stupid posts that don't really cover the topic at hand)

If the answer to 1 is yes, then I feel either bump of old or new is appropriate (posters choice). And it shouldn't matter that much either way.

If the answer is no, then a new post / thread should be created imo. Doesn't matter if someone posts in the old one, I'd just prefer to see the new one instead.

The only exception would be if there's already a CURRENT or very recent thread on the same topic, then clearly it should go there instead of new. But that's not really covered by necrobump anyway.

Yes, if someone goes through and bumps 20 old threads in 30 minutes just for the sake of bumping old threads, they should get a warning, and possibly even a 24 hour time-out if they persist. However, I wouldn't state that the primary offense would be for necrobumping, because conversely if someone created 20 new threads in 30 minutes, they would also be in line for a warning or possible temporary ban. The infraction in either instance is really for excessive spamming. That's consistent moderation.
