Just make it a day for all blokes to get tested for STDs.

It would be a boon to public health, but would also recognise that his crew brought syphillis back to the Old World, just as they transmitted disease to the New.

So that's my solution for Columbus Day. Get yourself tested.

Fair point, but generally it's blokes who are reluctant to get tested. And also can be carriers without noticeable effect- say for HPV.

Just speaking for myself generally, I don't do well in tests.

HOWEVER, I'm pretty much clean as a whistle. Take lots of precautions. For instance, if I'm with a lady friend who appears sketchy I always make sure to splash some Cool Mint flavor Listerine on my private areas. If I know for a fact there's more going on I'll just say "no" or put strict limits on what we do. For instance, last month I was with a lady friend who had TB and polio and I said "hand stuff only - NO exceptions."

Finally, I don't engage in high-risk activities unless I've already had at least two mixed drinks. I just don't do it.

It's all just basic common sense. It's the 21st century, people, and it's about YOUR health. Take care of it.

I think, rather than "Indigenous People's Day",it should be named in each area after the people that lived there before Columbus. I'm guessing many Americans couldn't name their local"indigenous people".
