Deadbeating

Post by Wezzn »

question,

As well known, even tough it is against the rules, there are a lot of intentional deadbeats throwing and messing up games.

Why isnt there a clear punishment for this?
Deadbeats can change a whole game, waste time for other players. I think many can agree that there should be a clear message/penalty for deadbeaters

Intentional deadbeating get reported and punished.

For example currently reported
viewtopic.php?f=5&t=226414

And reported and punished :

viewtopic.php?f=5&t=226414

First offense is a warning, then a one week ban, then it might result in more serious action if the player keep deadbeating.

Though I disagree this is that common, most people deadbeating are doing so because they quit CC, at least that is my experience with deadbeat.
But if you know people are deadbeating, please report them to the C&A mods.

Yeah, if that's happening, it's probably intentional deadbeating. But it's up to you to collect the evidence and file a report -- post links to the relevant games, the times when they missed turns in the games they deadbeat, and the times that they took turns in other games. Like everything else on CC, there are only a handful of volunteers staffing C&A on a part-time basis, and they have no time to go looking for evidence. It's up to players to present it.

I've deadbeated out of games because life happens and tends to kick you in the CC's. Also, dependent on your line of work, imo.

If you dont play turns in game 1 because you are a sore loser, and are playing turns in game 2, you are a deadbeat. If rl comes up, who can prove?

I rarely miss, but it does happen. And then there's days when I might have well have missed -- when I come home so tired that I play like a total idiot, and I probably would have been better off to miss.

That's because I work on the highway. I'm out on the road for 12 hours at a time and coming home tired is my norm. But for someone who works in an office with a nominal 8-hour day including 3 hours of coffee breaks, smoke breaks, bathroom breaks, and sneaking-away-to-the-third-floor-to-flirt-with-the-cute-broad-in-payroll breaks, shouldn't be tired at all. And especially if it's one of those offices with uncensored internet, they can even take their turns during their coffee break. So I would expect near-perfect attendance from someone like that.

Yeah if I get sent somewhere without Internet it's no excuse.

I believe it when you write you miss turns just because you are an asshole though.

Adjusting your game load takes time, and real life doesn't always give you that luxury. There's been many times when I thought I was going to have a relatively easy week at work, so I joined some extra games, and then suddenly I got extra work and I was struggling.

It's especially brutal when a bunch of tournaments go into the next round all at once. Last week I got 45 new games in 48 hours, just as my work week was beginning. That's from six tournaments, four of them with heavy game loads, that decided to do an update at the same time. I had no warning. I was just starting a 60-hour week,I needed more games like I needed a hole in the head, but one doesn't control when a tourney goes into the next round, and it was just my luck that six of them did, within two days of each other. My game load jumped from about 80 to about 120 and I think I did actually miss a few turns the first day.

Thanks for the life advice. No shit, Sherlock. I'm in way too many games. I rush through my turns and CC is a chore. Unfortunately there's just too many good tournaments to ignore.

I simply stated a broader term for the topic "Deadbeating". If someone is dipping out of one game but playing another, then yeah, I'd have a problem. But if someone walled me or PMed me why they deadbeated, IE: "I got ran over by a car because I was playing in traffic with my kid, soz", then I'd say no harm, no foul.

The grass is always greener. You can sit, smoke, drink coffee and go to the toilet any time you like. As my mate Bubbles explains
