Ok, so I want to host my own tournament. I want to have four divisions with the winners all collecting free quarterly membership prizes while advancing to the final round. Add two wild cards and then things would be set for a multi-game, six player final with a membership prize for a whole year for the champ. Does anybody have any advice? Do you think I can make a competive and coveted tournament here on CC with those kind of prizes? Based on your experience, how many people would wanna play in something like that? Does anybody have any insight before I get started?
Start with a smaller tournament. Epic ideas are a recipe for disaster. If you really want to be creative, the Great War is looking for event writers, so you could probably set your idea up for that and it would be very popular.

I appreciate the help. Maybe I will start small and get the feel of it. How exactly could I become an event writer? I'm really not happy with the tournament's available right now and I'm not eligible to play in most of them because I'm only sergeant first class. I'm really not finding anything that I play most of the time with lots of people in the public games (singles, 6 players, standard, flat rate or no spoils, regular maps, CHAINED). I think I need to create my own. I want to play in good tournaments and im not happy with what I have seen. Maybe I'm missing something.
Can I suggest that for your first tournament you pick a map maybe two and game conditions that you like to play. The decide single or double elimination, (or you could do points scored however you wish), but I am suggesting what would be good for your learning curve as a T.O. (Tournament Organizer). After you have successfully run 3 tournaments you can be invited to the T.O. hidden thread. I applaud your desire for complex layered tournaments. Too many are the IMO silly, waste of time single elimination kind.
If you like I would be happy to help mentor, as in help with some of the coding (there is some that one rarely uses except for tournaments), suggest solutions or people who have solutions, review your tournament setup, etc. In short, anything except run your tournament for you. I know how much I appreciated the people who did for me and I am offering to pass it on.
Yes, make it small. Start with a 16 player tournament. You could run let's say 8 of those, and then you could create a grand finale tournament where you offer a year membership to the winner for example.
Long tournaments are a nightmare for the organisers because people drop out, quit cc, lose interest...
I'm always a big proponent of fun, big tournaments. But I definitely DISCOURAGE them as your first. I remember when I first came into the tournaments area and the rules changed right before I released a big tournament of my own. It was frustrating and why I eventually quit running them (and what sparked my interests into clans)
I don't think "nobody" should run a big first tournament, but the chance of success is much less because of the difficulties surrounding them (especially on todays CC, previously at least there was a bunch of active people to pull from the pool)

Thank you, Silly-King It for offering, and the rest of you for advice. I really want to. Not sure why it isn't easier. How do we get in touch with CC? They need to fix this!

What do they need to fix?

What isn't easier? Have you read the Tournament Handbook? That's probably the first step.
If there's anything else you need help with, just ask. But read the Handbook first.

Is there still a handbook? I thought the old one was archived.

Yeah, I remember there was a debate if it should be in Create/Join or in Info/Discussions. Anyway, I added a link there now, so people who look in either place should be able to find it.
