The more I think about it, I realize that it was never released as a single. It was the introductory track of a this bands 1981 concept album (this band was big into concept albums, hint, hint, hint).

I'll give more hints tonight if you guys don't latch onto it.

I went through all the list of great albums of 1981, couldn't make anything fit.
Rush released Moving Pictures, but the first track, Tom Sawyer, definitely was a single.
The Moody Blues released Long-Distance Voyager, but the first track there doesn't seem to fit any of the original clues.
AC/DC released For Those About to Rock, but the title track doesn't seem to fit any of the original clues.
The Who Face Dances, Blue Oyster Cult's Fire of Unknown Origin, Iron Maiden's Killers, The Police Ghost in the Machine.... one dead end after another.
