A lack of courtesy.

Post by elfish_lad »

Or civility for that matter.

I now, unilaterally, foe speeders who lack the ability to type something civil in greeting.

The last straw for me? The last game fruitcake played. I followed a rabbit hole after a number of vodka and 7’s one night and I found a cook not being civil to fruitcake in a return game he/she played a year ago. I was like “f*ck me.” Ridiculous behaviour by the cook. But? Not uncommon. Even from people my age. For fucking shame. Really.

I know, I’m an over sensitive flower. Sobeit. But I’m done with players who, at the very least, don’t reply with the pathetic but at least civil, “gg.”

Who does my new foe policy impact? Well... no one but me really.

Why am I sharing this then? Not sure really, but I always thought, under Lack’s reign/ownership we tried, as dick-headish as we could be at times with each other in games and on the boards, to be civil.

I know I’m not the first to announce this type of thing, and I can predict some furious eye rolling from some of you, but I don’t give a shit what you think, I think it’s sad that we can’t at least be human to each other, and I come here for fun. Incivility isn’t fun for me.

So there. I’ve stuck out my tongue. Moving along.

Bye.

I try to say GL, and GG etc but w/ phones and tablets chats a different tab altogether and sometimes just totally don’t think of it / miss that there’s any chat there (especially for none team games).

I’m sure not everyone does it in purpose, back in the day everyone was on a computer and chat showed up for everyone on one screen. That’s no longer the case.

I didn’t say it was an excuse. I said it’s probably a reason you’ve seen a decline and gave personal examples of issues I have run into and why etc.

I always try to say at a minimum gg, but I have missed people trying to chat and missed until several rounds later etc (again, non team games where I don’t really expect much chatter).

When I got between 40 and 61 games it became more like work and I likely wasn't as social.

If I win I'll post "5 Stars for All!" and give great ratings.

Btw, I do not foe and have no plans to. Players are valuable.

What does that mean “players are valuable?”

Kinda feel like that’s a total bullshit answer.

glhf has been ruined for me. Someone told me that it stood for "Good luck having fun". Haven't been able to see it any other way since.

I think you are possibly being a bit harsh EL.

I am basically on your side on this. I think its pretty rude not to reply when someone says hello etc. But I do keep in mind that there are people that may not speak English, or they may not see the chat screen every single time. As mush as I try to practise what I preach, I do sometimes miss a greeting until mush later in the game.

There are other forms of rudeness that I do foe for though.

1) if people go completely bananas when things dont go their way. We all experience cc's love for us at various times and vent accordingly but there are times when I think "I am not having someone talk to me like that!"

2) Deadbeating in a speeder without saying anything. I have no problem with people deadbeating a speed game. I do it all the time. But not saying anything just leaves me hanging and wasting my time. I dont foe straight away, but for repeat offenders, i consider it a lack of personal courtesy and foe accordingly. You can tell people do it on purpose when the resign option is available and they start their turn and close the window, so that that turn doesnt count as missed and you have to wait for that one and then another three.

So yeah. I think we should punish the discourteous. I dont want to play with people that cant at least be civil most of the time

Silence crept in years ago. Sometimes I miss greetings because I did not check the chat window after playing too many games typing all by myself.

I’m trying to at least post a “gl mate” and/or “gg” sometime and as much as I can switch to the chat window (playing with phone and tablet), but when reaching 70+ games for several weeks then I may miss to do it since I have my countdown as low as 30min to take my turn before missing those games...can’t really speak about speed game because I don’t play it often but I remember during CC event with speed auto tournament that I don’t necessarily visit the chat.
You have a valid point though, I think it is a pattern that is missing those days where player(s) join, play and gone moving on to the next game, I’m sure most of the time it is not intentional to be impolite against the opponent.

Yeah. But you’re a punk. I can smell that miles and miles away. Go shower up skippy. You’re repugnant.

Moving past the riff-raff...

Ok. Maybe I’m harsh. But I’ll hold my ground here.

It’s ridiculous behaviour, at any time, anywhere, to not greet a fellow player, or acknowledge the game, or act like you’re playing a bot.

When I first joined this site I was surprised and a little irritated by the fact that nobody ever chats in games.

Now I've gotten to that point myself. Too many games, no time to pay attention to chat, that's part of the reason. But a bigger part is that game chat is pretty limiting to begin with. Anyone who really wants to express himself is better served by finishing their games quickly and coming to the forum.
