Private multiplayer game?

Does anyone know if I need to have premium to create a private game with friends?
It seems I only needed it to reserve spaces but I'm struggling to make it work.
Has anyone had experience setting up a private free game before?

Just like reserving spots, you can't set up a game with a password unless you are premium.

The work around is to make a game and try to get your buddies to join right away.

If you co-ordinate it well it usually works.

If I set up a game is it possible to kick people waiting in the lobby before the game starts?
Also, out of curiosity - how active are people on this site? Do game slots get filled quickly?

No you can not kick waiting players out.

Sometimes games get filled quick sometimes they take quite a while, it depends a bit on settings. The settings I like for 12 player games usually take a very long time to fill.

On occasion I make a game and get surprised it filled up in a few days.
