Even though I doubt the world will be around in 2100 I think U.S. will still be world power. China and India are very threatening but they only have numbrs. Thats it. Now if China was to take over India or vice-versa, then were screwed.

I honestly think Russia is on its way to a powerhouse status again.

Maybe not in 2100, but I think they are a bigger threat than China right now. If I recall Russia has its own oil resources, as well as they have been growing business wise a lot faster than China or India. China nd India still seem to be just cheap labor, but Russia is getting in there and running these huge companies.

Heh a more accurate option would be NATO because most EU members are a part of it and it's this organization that influences politics. I don't consider India a threat because they love their wealth accumulated in 1% of the population, which dilutes their power. And frankly, the U.S. has researched so much into biological and other forms of warfare to ever be threatened by numbers. It all hedges on whether China industrializes enough before the majority of oil is used up or finds a way through alternative fuels. Has anyone heard of the dam they built on the Yangxe River that is 5 miles long and displaced enough water to submerge 100 cities! If they build enough of those they won't need anything else...

Hmmm I don't want to alarm you guys, but China is already the new world power, we just havent realized yet. Google some numbers, you'll see, China beats the US in everything. Obviously if you go per person, they don't but it doesnt really matter in the end. And with their growing industries and project like the three gorge dam nearing completion, they are the new superpower.

There's a big difference between beating and being a world power.

Right now China lacks the ability to exert its will on other nations, they have very little influence right now. That's why I think Russia has an edge over them, and the US definetly does. I mean everyone watches the US... no one even wonders what China thinks about decisions.

I don't think oil will be an issue in 2100, and I definitely don't think Russia will be a superpower ever again.

China has numbers, yes, but you have to go per capita. I think that the US will stay on top - but I guess I'm a little biased. I'm just glad that no one has voted for Canada :wink:

I dont think Canada will ever be a super power, but in 2100, maybe the #1 ressource will be water. And Canada does have a whole lot of water. So does Brazil. Hah maybe Canada and Brazil will unite and conquer the world :mrgreen:

the scariest for the americans would be an indo-sino alliance and the formation of the "chindia" block, there's already been a lot of talk about "chindia" (this term has been used in the media if you have not been up to date), they have been going through many negotiations to improve trade and collaboration. in addition someone said china can't exert influence on many countries is simply not true, many countries in africa and southeast asia will consider china as a country to depend on over USA or russia, some african universities are considering chinese as a mandatory course and some southeast asian nations accept the yuan (altho not officially but common practice), china or india will inevitably replace usa, but it will also be due to usa's own downfall if they keep electing dimwits like george bush

The dams in China are something I should seriously research. I have tried to stay on top of their space program, and I have to admit that their exports are of greater quality than the useless Chinese tools I purchased from dollar stores years ago.

I think China/India will be world leaders in less than 40 years. Like Nobunga said though, they need to fix some problems with their population's quality of life to ensure the keep of the power (can we say that in that manner?

But I just want to remind everyone that 2100 is in almost 100 years...

What nations were the world dominators at that time? England, France, Germany...Maybe they could've imagined USA would be a world leader in industries and military in 100 years, but they could've never thought about China or India...

Maybe well get something like "South-American Coalition of nations" rulimg the world in 100 yaers...it is a little too far to predict I think, a scale of 50 years is more in our sight.

Plus, if a world war is declared (wich could be a plausible option) its clouds our vision of the future even more! (Yoda would say it that way...lol)

Well out of the ones that are not world leaders all ready I would say India because they seem to have absorbed the best of eastern and western culture. They are living what some would call "the American dream".

2100 - If i think about it we will be in a massive war with aliens and we will have discovered hyperspace

2101- we will be eraicated by a much more powerful alien race like in war of the worlds apart rom with the aliens winning

It's interesting the way people say "China is our biggest threat" or "Russia will take over the world"

The thing about emerging economies like China & Inida, and Eastern Europe is that it's good for the world's overall economy for them to do better.

In the short term, you might see some jobs moving places, and some indisutries moving elsewhere, but on the overall scale, it results in cheaper goods, and a healthier economy for all.

Basically, we'll all be richer is China's (or other countries) become richer.

Wow tell that to the Ming Dynasty. They had expanded far but once their population reached a million they couldn't sustain themselves. Sorry but the globalization argument doesn't always work out. Take a look at diamonds, they can be found globally and have been mined thoroughly but the price has staid high. Now why is that? It's an artificial market where the companies deliberately make the prices stay up so that they profit on the long term. Other resources aren't able to do this because of their dependence such as oil, those resource rich countries could impose restrictions but would probably be tarrifed to hell for what they did sell so it wouldn't be a bargain anymore. It's useless to argue what improves the world economy because we benefit from the poverty other countries experience, so their standard of living will never go up.
