This may well have been considered before and I don't know whether it's possible to do.

Have territories you control transparently shaded in your colour, just as we see, for example, empires on historical maps. It could be optional. I think this would add to the sense of expansion and retreat.

It may not be quite the same thing but you might get an effect you like if you play with the Settings inside a game. A thought anyway.

This effect can easily be achieved with highlighter and whiteboard pens :D

this is the method i use, super helpful & takes a fair bit less time than one would tend to think.

I wish I had read this pro tip before, now I have a permanent outline of australia on my screen :roll:
