Hand-picked and endorsed by President Trump, the new Speaker and third-in-line to the American Presidency is now
KEVIN MCCARTHY of CALIFORNIA!

God bless the Triune leader!

The 118th Congress officially convened at 1:21 a.m. this morning! The Speaker pledged it will use "the power of the purse and the power of subpoena" to punish Joe Biden for his crimes against America.

Finally. Where every vote counts and is needed, Trump's endorsement was needed. Giving (or appearing to give) all the credit to Trump is misguided.

Now let us get on with the "Business of the American People."

Pathetic… 13 vote and 3 days.

Sad.

The crazier wing of the Republican party is gonna stop all real business.
Don’t expect Congress to accomplish much over the next two years.

Another example of how Democrats don't understand strategy.

While McCarthy was still looking very vulnerable, around the 6th or 7th ballot, some moderate Democrats should have voted for him and put him over the top. Having him owe a favour to some moderate Democrats and owe no favours to the Freedom Caucus would have been potentially a very useful lever for the upcoming session. It's not the kind of favour that would change the world, but it could be just enough in some clutch situation to carry the day.

I tend to sympathize more with the intentions of the Democrats, but over and over again Republicans show themselves to be simply better at playing the game.

What has Congress achieved of significant note in the past 10 years? Other than spend money we do NOT have.

I expect little change there.

He had to bribe the radical Right to vote present to become the Speaker on the 15th vote.

Pathetic. And the agenda of the Right who won is to shut down the government later this year .

Just complete nonsense that a fair number of ignorant people support.

I don't disagree with the general sentiment but i think in this case no there was no upside to dems 'bailing mccarthy out'. He's already really really far right, and any votes from dems probably would have hurt him (within his party) more than it would have helped/been appreciated.

… I’m sure he was approached by at least some Dems.

One thing the Republicans SAY they want, which I would agree with, Term Limits.

If we even get modest term limits it’ll be a plus.

I missed this part, where Mike Rodgers apparently had to be restrained to stop from his attempt to storm the Freedom Caucus bench to attack Matt Gaetz during the 14th vote.

We need more passionate disagreement like this. Meanwhile, on the Democratic side of the aisle, it's 212 robots who obediently follow the leader and meekly do as they're told.

I was multitasking during the votes!

Good call on the chairmanship. Rogers is supposed to get Homeland Security but Gaetz will need to get on it if he wants to impeach Alejandro Mayorkas a few times a year like he said. Look at poor little RINO Patrick McHenry down there in his bowtie. He looks like he was on his way to Bible Camp and accidentally ended up in Tijuana's red light district. THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE HOUSE IS SWOLE BOYS TERRITORY, PAT.

LOL - Bad Lip Reading did a dub of the Gaetz-AOC meetup:

LOL, you're right. He literally is clutching a different guy in each arm. Needs a big dog to protect him from the Swole Boys.
