Unlike in other countries, where child deaths are most commonly the result of things like cancer or traffic accidents, in the US the consistent primary cause of death for children is gun violence:

Why does the US value freedom to own lethal weapons, do hate speech etc over the freedom to live a safe and peaceful life? Is it something to do with the rebellion when US left the UK?

Read a little deeper. A heavy majority are age 13-17 nonwhite urban males engaged in violence. Those are gang bangers.

Point of clarification: the article doesn't say anything of this, it just says that most child gun violence victims are black.

Which judging by KB's response may be the reason why so many Americans don't care enough to do anything.
