There is no way the site can keep grown up customers with jobs who can pay for subscriptions because the place is full of manbabies. It would be very straightforward to create a "no chat" option and people who have no time for their bullshit would stay on.
I came back about a month ago, after I had an almost10 year long break, I also decided to start with a 3 month sub. But I have not regretted it at all, already just as hooked as I was back in the day. Just a bit sad that the site does not have as many players as before, I remember there was atleast a couple new community hosted tournaments a day, now it seems we are lucky if there is a new one a week. Found autotournaments, so I joined a couple of them, but they look just as dead, none of them have started since I joined about a week ago.
But I am having suck a good time, so I know I will buy a 12 month sub as soon as the 3 months run out.
Welcome back I remember your name

I also came back about a year ago after a 7 year break and had a similar experience to kingm tbh sad that the site membership has fallen and that there are so few tournaments (though is probably good for me as don't have the time to play all the tournaments as I used to)

Two and a half weeks later they are indeed continuing that stability and stand at the 4,065 you last mentioned,
We have crept in to once again the Autumn/Fall period for the Northern Hemsiphere (Where the majority of users reside) so unless the site closes I imagine the numbers will now hover around above 4,000-4,500 until next May now.

Probably even lower; I doubt it will be near 4,500 consistently
I have to say a surprising dip back under 4,000..thought things were picking up a bit and stabilising for the winter season....maybe a false dawn after all....or the multis have left the building ?
The site seems to be clinically dead. It's hard to fill a 3v3 game on a simple and popular map like Europa with no special rules like trench or fog.
I joined a poly freemium tournament weeks ago. Only one guy had joined before I did, and guess what? The number of participants is still 2 until the writing of this post!

Why would you assume I'm complaining? It's not like I'm shouting or asking for solutions. I'm simply stating that even popular games are hard to fill nowadays - plain and simple!
Note: not cherry picking data from Sept just using the last month available
Not sure I understand what those numbers are. Are they the numbers of highly active players?
Yeah lot of people track total players (obviously) but the one that’ll really make it feel dead is how many “highly active” players are onsite.
Obviously if there’s 4K and 1k is highly active, the 3k aren’t contributing “nothing” towards games. But just judging how many really are highly active makes a difference.
To make this count you’d not just have to be active, which is what is mostly tracked here but these #’s are 20+ games in that month

Yes I agree. I think the players who spend the most time on the site are clan players who are mostly devoted to clan games and competitions. This makes them isolated from the ones who play for mere fun and newcomers.
The intensely competitive nature of clan games makes it hard for them to play so much out of that and leaves them no big room for it anyway. I may be wrong though, as I don't have any stats as a basis of my personal analysis.
I did a deep dive into retention numbers years ago. Clan and hard core tournament players tended to have better retention (clan was highest)
They do have a segment who play clan games that keep game count low. So there is still a segment of active people who don’t hit the high game count numbers etc but that’s a hard group to quantify beyond just using clan numbers or something similar

Part of the reason is the game boards don’t fill I’ll sit waiting for weeks for a board I join to fill, sometimes I’ll take the last spot on a board I hate just to play. Ready to pull the chute on it.

When I joined in 2010, there were around 17-18k. Live Chat was very fun and full of life. You would always find freemiums asking for and willing to play real time games.

So this means the competition is getting better and better.. just look it positive.. not negative if the glass is 50% full

Well, the competition is good if the games are filled in the first place.

Yeah, people are not kind to each other so yes i agree. Games are not filled and why should they. Better to leave right?

That's my plan when I kill one more unique player on trips. I keep leaving and retuning like I leave for a couple of years then come to play for months.
I've stayed optimistic about this site and the dwindling population but that's quickly waning.
Not that the Battle Royale games are a strong indicator since I don't think many people see them as prestige games or anything, but they're simply not filling. It's a really bad sign that I can only join a BR every 30 days but I'm currently waiting for both to fill so can't join another one. Pretty dismal that the sequential version has not filled in 75+ days and the freestyle hasn't filled in 45+ days. I've been eligible to join a BR game for over two weeks but can't because they simply don't regenerate fast enough.
