I know most people have contempt for Pimp Gaetz, but I think Trump has pretty much total control of his minions. He's like Darth Vader; people may talk about disobeying him as long as they're confident he's on another planet, but when he's actually in their face it's "Yes Sir! No Sir!" or whoops, how come you're turning blue?

I'd take a bet that he'll get his pet in the office by hook or by crook.

I think he will get him in, but just for long enough to bury any chance either Trump or Gaetz will have anyone left in the department who wants to go after them. I don't think he will be the first appointed head to roll. In reality we've already seen this movie 8 years ago where the first batch of people are gone before his first 100 days are up, and since recess appointments can last up to two years we are sort of manufacturing a problem here when, at least for Trump, there really isn't one.

There are too many "red flags" or warning signs to approve Gaetz as AG. This is TOO important a job to have a SUSPECTED Criminal in the position. The fact that Gaetz RESIGNED his House Seat BEFORE the Ethics report on him was published tells me that he has something/LOTS to hide. And he resigned within the day of Trump's announcement, as I recall; rather PDQ.

Trump has several questionable appointments; this may be the WORSE of all. I said elsewhere that the Defense Secretary designate, Hegseth, is a "lightweight" with no real experience managing such a large Department. Trump chose flame throwers and not competent people, or competence is not the main criteria. On the other hand, having a few people "shake things up" may be good for some things. BUT Gaetz is a NO for me.

I saw the title of this thread and assumed Trump had appointed bigtoughralf as Attorney General.

But I agree with JP4F, Gaetz is a no go.

I see a lot of people in the commentatorsphere now saying what saxi said days ago in the other thread -- that some of these appointments are being done simply to make other appointments look less controversial by comparison, and that Trump is probably willing to sacrifice Gaetz without a fight in exchange for accommodations in other posts.

• - Gaetz nominated for Attorney General --> Trump magnanimously settles for Jeff Clark
  - Kash Patel rumored for Director of the FBI --> Trump magnanimously settles for Mark Morgan

At the end of the day, Trump gets whom he really wanted all along in both these slots, plus the Senate end up owing him favors he can call in.

Even Little Marco makes sense now that I see Lara Trump is the frontrunner to be appointed to the Senate from Florida after Marco vacates his seat.

So, it looks like the DOJ has dirt on him, but is unwilling to share because of the victims. Can't they at least share exactly what they have with names redacted? This is the same crap with Epstein's list. No one will trust a DOJ who can sit on info and not do anything about it.

Gaetz is a terrible pick for this position no matter what. But it's kind of nice for him that he is resigning before the Ethics Committee can complete their investigation. Why doesn't the DOJ complete it? It's a serious allegation that should be investigated.

Watching at how absolutely wretched and miserable she looks being compelled to recite these lines under threat of dismissal and a defamation judgment is hilarious.
