Manual territory selection option in speed games

Post by Marshall Law »

I actually haven’t played a speed game yet, but I am assuming the initial unit placement is random just like the “casual” games. I am fairly new to CC and when I got hooked this is one of the features that disappoint me the most. I know it would take forever to take turns choosing the territories at the beginning of a casual game. But I think there should be an option in the speed games that allow everyone to set up map by taking turns choosing their territories. This would change the dynamic of the game and could be fun. I hope this makes sense.

The name "speed games" implies the games are supposed to be fast. Now you are suggesting to slow them down with this setup stage. NO!

This could be problematic, as whoever gets the first choice would influence where the second person must go. People can manipulate it so that their territories are connected, etc. I think it would be far underused and mostly lopsided.

Nay, I say.

I like the idea, but all of the issues that people have brought up make me think nay. There is no real way to make it even. If you just go 1-6 (or however many players) over and over again, the first player has an advantage.

I suppose maybe you could go 1-6, 6-1, over and over again. However the first player has a bit of an advantage, and the last player has a little bit too.

In 2 player games, if you went 1, 2, 2, 1, 2 and then just repeated 1, 2 it would work.

Forgive me if I don't make sense, or something I said has some blatant errors in it. Its 4 in the morning, and for some reason I'm still up.
