Brightness, I can see a slight reduction...but it's only worth one more pass/shot at it.

You could be turning that dial up and down eternally.

Maybe two more passes. :) But I agree that there is only so much more that can be done, and the thread contributers seem to agree.

QUENCH!!!!! Great update!!! The Asteroid Belt on the large version looks amazing. The small one, not as much, but as good as you can get it.

I feel pretty comfy with this last version being the final one.

If there is more input I'd like to get it.

Since you're nearing quench, you'll want to provide text links to both maps and the xml.

Your xml isn't quite right yet.

lackattack wrote:I fixed another mistake: <overrules> should be <overrides>.

This is my fault, because I had it wrong in the XML Tutorial (which is now corrected).

<continent>
<name>3 Jump Gates</name>
<bonus>2</bonus>
<components>
<component>JG-IP</component>
<component>JG-AB</component>
<component>JG-J</component>
<component>JG-S</component>
<component>JG-U</component>
<component>JG-N</component>
<component>JG-KB</component>
</components>
<required>3</required>
<overrules>
<overrule>2 Jump Gates</overrule>
<overrule>1 Jump Gate</overrule>
</overrules>
</continent>

The overrule section should be:

<overrides>
<override>2 Jump Gates</override>
<override>1 Jump Gate</override>
</overrides>

You'll need to change all the overrules.

great update, that asteroid belt on the large looks awesome (not trying take any credit).

just one thing, does it look like the attack route from saturn's low orbit to equatorial saturn seem brighter than the rest of the attack routes on map?

You certainly deserve some... it was your idea.
jako wrote:just one thing, does it look like the attack route from saturn's low orbit to equatorial saturn seem brighter than the rest of the attack routes on map?

It is.

the one over the rings and a few similar routes over other gas giants are brighter than others (i think the asteroid belt has the same thing going on).

I got a number of complaints along the way that folk couldn't see routes that pass over a planet and that they should be brightened.

Of course now that i've pointed it out to you it will bother you forever. :)

Didn't you say you were going to animate the stars? We talked to the big man upstairs and a light animation like that would probably be okay if you still wanted to do it.

thx for that, but i just came up with the idea, u did all the dirty work :wink: :lol:

this poses a problem as it sorta stands out apart from the other attack lines, which is kinda annoying TBH. if u lessen the brightness, then those people cant see it, so for the sake of gameplay, just forget my comment then.

@coleman, thats a nice idea, i think it would look great and add more the visual of the map already.

Um... well I hate to disappoint you all
Coleman wrote:Didn't you say you were going to animate the stars? We talked to the big man upstairs and a light animation like that would probably be okay if you still wanted to do it.

I've thought about it some more after that discussion. I cant quite do it practically. I'd want a 2 second animation (or about 24 frames) witch would be probably a bigger file than most would want to load.

Further I'd only do it on the large map ( the small map star background has been played down because it was visually cluttering the map ). Its my understanding that only 12% of users use the large map so my audience would be pretty small.

One day when US has great internet bandwidth like the rest of the developed world animated maps will be cool... but in the mean time I don't know that it can be done in a visually appealing way. (or at least... I don't know I could do it in a visually appealing way)

Okay not a problem, just checking. Expect a quench or unified response from the cartography staff within the next few days, assuming there are no further withstanding suggestions from the foundry. :wink:

the sun isn't round. in the small its elongated some to fit the text. In the large its lumpy to fit the text. I'll elongate the large one and loose the lumpiness.

Venus looks ok to me. in the large there is a bit of an optcal illusion on the top . i might be able to do something about that when I'm dealing with the sun.

max...i get them also in my maps, and from sitting too long at the computer. :twisted:

EDIT....looking very good to me Coleman....there is only one little thing i would adjust if i were doing this map....the jump gate instructions on the sun...i would centre it more in the sun if possible...IMHO only thought :)
