Reviews of Conquer Club

Post by skulkrinbait »

I've got a website that reviews online browser games, but nobody has reviewed or rated Conquer Club - anyone want to remedy that with a short review?

If so then please visit:

http://www.ogreview.org

I hope this isn't considered spam!

Not at all. Do you have any Game of the Month type constests, or something similar? We like to vote for ourselves.

Good idea, you can rate a game, once someone submits it to the site, but I like the idea of having a "Game of the Month" or similar.

Thanks.

:D

There is a suggestions link but you'll need to register to use it, I was getting flooded with spam bots.

I'd do it, but I'm done registering for random sites that I don't plan to visit in the future (no offense to your site, indeed it's pretty well put together). 4000 junk mails a day is enough though...

No offense taken!

It's the first database driven site I've done, so it's not great by a long way, but I am hoping to improve it based on suggestions etc.

I don't spam people (except by mistake once when I tested a newsletter function that went wrong) and email addresses aren't displayed anywhere so you wont get spammed.

But if anyone wants to write a quick review and post it here then I can put it onto the site for you so you wont need to register.

Maybe I need to rethink registration?

I'm considering whether or not to let the site die as the domain is due to expire in a few weeks, so was just seeing if there was enough interest to keep it going, hence this post.

Thanks for the comments so far!

Sweet website. I would condense your text. It's a little windy. Studies have shown that people tend to scan the internet and avoid big blocks of text. I know I do. Your website contains the passage below"

The Online Game Review website is for online gamers everywhere and contains reviews and ratings of browser-based games If you already play such games, please write a review or rate the game to help new players. If you want to know which online game is best, or which one would interest you most, read the reviews!

I've completed an interview with Athena and Spirit, the webmistresses of The Outer Reaches 2 - click to read the Interview. I aim to bring this type of article every week or two in future to keep the site interesting.

I'm currently working on a newsletter that you can sign up for if you visit your profile, the easiest way to do this is click on your name at the bottom of the page, where it says who is online. You'll need to be logged-in to see this.

You could easily condense this to something more like this.

Online Game Review contains reviews and rating for browser based games. Write a review and rate your favorite games here and check reviews from other players.

Read the latest interview with Athena and Spirit, webmasters at The Outer Reaches 2. Also check in for regular future interviews.

Sign up for the newsletter! It contains (whatever it contains) The newsletter can be found in your profile.

Other suggestions:
Make the banner bigger or add more graphics. This will make your page look less text intensive.

Vary your fonts a little more. Everything is written in the same type of text. Bold, Underline, font size etc will make your page look more professional. Just don't overdue it.

Keep whoring the baby around. Websites tend to either take or quickly or don't make it. If someone logs on and sees your website has been around a year and is still dead they aren't going to waste their time.[/b]

I've moved this to the Clubhouse so you can continue talking about this other website w/o having to worry about keeping it CC-related. I'd still love to see someone write a review for CC. Any takers out there?

Thanks for the advice, I'll get the text changed later today and look into the other ideas.

I wrote it like that as the SEO tips I read suggested that by using key words repeatedly it would help the site get to the top of the search engine rankings, but that's not everything.

Keep the suggestions coming guys!

I've updated the site based on the feedback received, thanks.

Next step is to add a game of the month poll or similar, but I want it to be "secure" so you don't just get someone clicking on the same game several hundred times, how would you code it to prevent this?

cena, don't strain too hard, the last time you wrote something over a couple of days you nearly had a stroke, well actually, here it is, cena's masterpiece......

Thanks, if you could also rate it for the following, out of 10, I can put that into the database as well:

Enjoyment: Quite simple this one, how enjoyable is the game to play, the higher the score the better.
Diplomacy: How much interraction there is with other players, the higher the mark the more there is, higher isn't necessarily better.
Complexity How complex the game is, the higher the mark the more complex, higher isn't necessarily better.
Fairness This is a general score covering things like how biased a game is against new players and those who aren't online often.
Reliability This covers server downtime, bugs etc. A low score means the game is spoiled by problems.
Overall Overall rating, the higher the better.
