Policy on extreme abuse [closed]

Post by comic boy »

Could Lack or a member clarify the position when a member gets abusive to the point of threatening another persons life. In extreme circumstances would details be passed on to a higher authority, are you obliged to report extreme abuse if the recipricant formaly complains, is there a legal position on all this ?

umm chessy, this isn't the flame wars bud. try to tone down the hostility please.

Comic, it would depend on the circumstances, we look at each case individually. You can either send an eticket or post the details here, whichever you're more comfortable with. Sorry for the delay.

standard procedure is to report such matters to wicked, who then morphs into 'seek and destroy' mode. i say morph but what i mean is changes costume.

I thought Wicked was always in seek and destroy mode and always in costume.

violence is NOT the answer! Is a waste of your own strength.

Offer his wife an alliance of something...

No, wait. Alliances with three players are 'frowned upon' and can result in a neg. Maybe offer just buy a gun like chess said.

If you have a question for the mods, I would suggest that the best thing to do would be (you guessed it) ask them. Not post it here where it might get lost in the deluge of multi reports.

Exile, it's fine here or in etickets, we just need more info to go off of. The MH's are pretty good about tagging threads for the mods and letting us know when something needs our attention.

Okay, that sounds better. Your first post was suggesting he'd never get help unless he sent a pm. At least that's how I felt after reading it.

It's more likely to get buried in an inbox. At least here, more eyes see it!

Thanks for the response Wicked
I have not personally recieved any abuse and my enquiry, though general, was inspired by the vitriolic stuff that eye84free recieved from the multi who was spamming the threads yesterday. The content really did go way beyond what most of us would consider reasonable and I think probably constituted criminal abuse. You can check it out on the thread entitled ' from our friend im a multi '. Although this particular guy has now been busted it would do no harm to let anyone, who wishes to repeat this sort of thing, know that it could well end in rather more than a ban from this site,

From the PM I rec'd from eye before I even read those threads, I believe he took it all in stride and had fun with it. I'm sure he hears worse everyday at his job.

In cases like these in the past, the user has been warned, and in at least one case I can recall, given a temporary forum & PM ban. People will stay stuff behind the safety of their keyboard that they would never dream of saying to someone's face in real life. We'll "police" it as best we can here, but that's really where our "authority" ends. And I used those words in quotes, as that's really not a role we like to see ourselves in; we'd rather have the community police itself and each individual handle themselves appropriately and let us just sit back and work on other more important things.

So in short, we DO look into cases of extreme abuse and handle each individually. Most of this is handled quietly, since that's usually how it's brought to our attention. You'll never hear all the warnings and such we give via PM, unless of course you're receiving it.

Forgot to add, since we already have a policy covering this....

Rules Page wrote:in cases of extreme obscenity or extreme harassment (in our judgement) we may take disciplinary action against the offending member.

... I'll mark it closed. If I didn't answer all your questions/concerns, let me know.

This guy comic does merit special attention as he has overstepped the mark several times in various incarnations - these threads tell thier own story and they all relate to him.

Don't now why people on here don't like being cooks, remember under siege: A former SEAL, now cook, is the only person who can stop a gang of terrorists when they sieze control of a US Navy battleship.
