yep, it seems the OP doesn't know the true "usefulness" of the flame forum........and some of us adults favor an adult-friendly site, i.e. we can say what we want. don't ask CC to raise your kids for you......

there are a lot of teenagers that go in flame wars anyway and they know the same amount of swear words as do the adults. :roll:

family friendly? Flame Wars isnt supposed to be a "family friendly". It says right under the name, "Not for easily offended", so if you can't handle swearing and insulting and bigotry, dont go there! :roll:

The quality of flame is pretty poor on this forum. Most of them seem to think packing the maximum number of baseless insults into the minimum space while using minimal vocabulary constitutes the highest quality flame.

They end up with zero impact. About like a dry fart in the toilet bowl. Lots of thunder but no action.

Here's an idea. Don't go there.

If you cherish your brain cells, then there's no point in going there. Just because you dont have anything to do in there doesn't mean that you can just destroy it. Some people live on there, and if they want to post pointless stupid insults then let them go ahead, because if they dont have flamewars, then it'll just go out to the rest of the forum.

If your worried about family friendly, why do you allow your kids to go to the forums. Just because there are a few who can't control where kids go, doesn't mean we have to punish everyone on the forum by destroying flame wars.

"Trash-talking" can be a fun element of the game and we take a liberal stance on what is allowed to be said in game chat. If one player offends another we generally do not want to get involved. However, in cases of extreme obscenity or extreme harassment (in our judgement) we may take disciplinary action against the offending member.

^It would be anti CC to take away flame wars I think^
We need the flame wars, some people just need a place to blow off steam and act stupid. This site was never intended to be family friendly, correct me if I am wrong.

Your right it was never intened to be family friendly but the game "risk" is family friendly and if you need to blow off steam from a simple game like this then you got bigger issues. there is no nead to create threads that say "Twill....Lord of Faggotry" "GLAD THAT 9/11 HAPPENED" "COCK MEASURING TIME" just plain retarted go find a different site to display your views on stupid junk like that

Disclaimer: Flame wars ain't going anywhere - yet

Why:
CC was never set up to be a "G" rated site (nor an "R" rated site though) and we want to make sure that as wide a range of people as possible have playgrounds where they can be themselves, vent, or trash talk or completely avoid that trash talking if they so choose.

While most people on the site don't care for it (the vast majority never visit the forums at all) there is a distinct group who do, and we want to enable that.

And, at this point, if we got rid of it, there would be hell to pay for a few weeks and I don't think any of the mods would get much sleep trying to clean it all up.

That being said:
There is a definite disadvantage to having a flame war type board on any forum (this is non-CC specific, so nobody feel insulted m'kay?) - By having an area where almost anything goes, it seems to give the feeling to people that the rest of the forum is the same way. It attracts and holds people who otherwise would pass the forum up all together and would not post.
By having an area that attracts people who swear, flame, spam, troll or otherwise are more "negative" we get more of that on the rest of the board.

The challenge for me and the mod team at this point is to convince the people in the flame wars section now that some of the stuff going on in there now isn't acceptable and that what does go on in there needs to stay in there.

Many people have problems with the existence and attempted changing of the Flame Wars, to both sides I say:
To the original poster - If you don't like it then, stay out.
To the current flamers - If you don't like it then, get out.

I disagree. I've never posted in Flame Wars, and haven't visited that often, but I still don't think it needs to be changed.

People know what to expect going in there, and if they didn't read the text under the link to it, they saw pretty quick and could leave if they wanted.

Most of the rest of the forums are what I'd expect from any other online community, if not better. Everybody is relatively nice to each other, with the occasion exception. I've been on other places that were really well moderated, but the idiots got flamed, and that was that. Here, you usually see a link to the right information or some such, with only a few people being jerks about it.

I say Flame Wars is actually helpful. People know if they want to be idiots, they can do it there. If they see a stupid post anywhere else, they might be tempted to be... less than civil, but they know Flame Wars is what that kind of stuff is for.

I said it once, I'll say it again. For being an online forum, these (excluding Flame Wars) are exceptionally nice to people compared to other places. It helps, not hurts.

I'm not trying to be too harsh on the mods here, but I think trying to change Flame Wars has made the general community worse. People in Flame Wars are acting up worse than usual, but that really doesn't matter in my opinion. But we see more hostility in the rest of the forum, because the flamers are pissed about Flame Wars, and they no longer feel it is quite the safe haven it once was for them.

Flame Wars needs to go!

Do you think Flame Wars has passed its usefullness and just needs to go away to make this site more family friendly?
