I really didn't have any intention of designing a map, just wanted to mess around and learn how. This is my first attempt at a map, and i think it's fairly decent. Let me know what you think and if I should continue with it, or just let it go. Thanks.
wow, on second glance it does...anyways maps not based on anything don't normally make it through but its possible. I can tell you that you do have potential to make a good map though.
What program are you using by the way?

I think it would be cool if the tree areas were treated like the lakes in Great Lakes map. You might want to split them up in a couple spots, but basically there would be certain territories that connect to the trees and there would be paths so that trees can connect through the territories that currently block the areas.
Also, I think it might be nice to get more bonus areas in there so possibly split the red region into two regions. And, maybe do the same with yellow making that center yellow territory into another tree region?
There would be bonuses for tree areas as well. So, if there were 9 tree areas. You'd get +1 for 4, +3 for 6, and +7 for 9 or something. That's not important yet just to provide an example.

I disagree with this completely. There's no water on this map. Forcing a Pirate theme onto the map would be a bad idea. It should come out naturally. Doesn't fit here.
There's already trees so a forest/woodland theme seems like a good idea.

The forest stuff is good, but i dont think that a lot of people (not me, id play it) wont play it cause it has no theme. Its not a real place or interesting theme, so they feel that they have nothing to conquer or "why am i fighting over this?" Plus naming will be quite hard. I say go for it! Its a pretty nice first draft and we'll see how it comes out.

Wrong. Substitute the bushes with some bodies of water. It's already got the parchment like a treasure map in the background.

well that could work for a different map. I say the idea I had for this one works well here. if you wanted to do that make sure you do the research to represent Gettysburg well.
RK, any old map will look like that. Not just treasure maps :p
I liked the forest idea quite a bit actually. But, I'm sure you'll be fine with whatever you choose.
