Love for the less-popular maps

Post by Aesop Jones »

Whenever you hit Join a Game, there's always fifty-seven thousand Triples games waiting on Classic and World 2.1 for you to get in on. And you can join them and enjoy yourself thoroughly, and nobody's ever gonna pee on you.

That said, what about all the other maps? Look at all the options you have these days. Maps of all sizes, shapes and flavors. I know a lot of you are here to win, to increase your rank, and as such you wanna stick to your comfort zone. Why not expand it, though? Why not start up a new game on a map you've never played before, just to see? So many people only try maps they've never experienced due to being stuck in them through tournaments, and they suffer as a result.

Let me challenge you to go ahead and do it right now. Seriously. Start a game on a map you've never played, even though it's been there for months. Just a nice casual Standard Sequential, so you can really sit back and learn about the map. Take in all its quirks.

And to put my money where my mouth is, I'm doing it myself with Valley of the Kings - game 1395136. Never played it yourself? Come on in and join me.

For all the bitching we all do on CC, we can forget what half the fun is - the chance to expand and stretch the parameters of global domination. So come on in and try it yourself. :)

Congratulations, you missed the point. =P It's not about picking "better" maps, it's about picking maps you yourself haven't played and breaking out of the comfort zone.

actually i like your point aesop, I try and play different maps just to mix things up a little. there are still a few i haven't played yet but will eventually. The idea is to have fun, although i do enjoy gaining point, increasing rank, and just the thrill of winning, i also think it would be nice to learn to be equally good at all the maps..... takeing on any and all players whenever possible..... Enjoy the game always........

I like Valley Of The Kings - took me a minute or two, but I really got to like the quirks in it. The Senate is good for a rumble too.

I love the Senate. There's lots of strategy to it, but it's best for an Escalating game.

The one I always champion is Rail USA, even though it confuses the heck out of other people. Having the BOB plugin helps a ton with this map your first time through; that way you can mouse over the stations to make sure they are what you think they are.

I love Rail USA - but it's hard without BOB!!

Probably the least popular map that I really like is Space. I also like Crossword pretty well.

i like to play a variety of maps with 6 player games, however if it comes to 1vs1 i always stick with my favorites. Funny thing is, i am probably one of the only people on this site who HATES both classic and 2.1 I also never played Rail Usa, crossword or king of the mountain, but i am sure i will try them out sometime
