I was about to mention that. For those of you who may not know about Klobbers exploits, he is by far and away, beyond a shadow of a doubt, trolling you right here in this thread. The solution to this problem is not to feed the troll.GENERAL STONEHAM wrote:The trolling that a few individuals, who have constantly call FLAME WARS and the supporters of the thread as childish and worse, are the new FLAMERS.

Actually, the language has improved, no scatological, genital, homophobic, pornographic, or racial references are tolerated. The odd insult here and there is minimal. Trolling seems to be the main effort of the ex-flame war lovers. They prefer chaos if they can't have it their way.owenshooter wrote:flame wars is alive and well in the GD...-0
i'd have to disagree.. i've dealt with more overt and direct racist comments in the past 2 weeks, then in my entire time here... and of course, when reporting racism, i receive formal warnings. however, that is far better than the week long ban i received for something i am no longer allowed to mention or i will receive a perma-gan. lets just say it involved my being called the N-word in game chat. now, the racist members are a bit more clever, using words out of context that are close to the N-word, and declaring that the word is not racist... yeah, it isn't racist when used in context and properly... racism should be an immediate one month ban. period.-0mpjh wrote:Actually, the language has improved, no scatological, genital, homophobic, pornographic, or racial references are tolerated. actually. nuff said wasnt said at all. i have played in over 5000 games. and less than 100 of them have had flaming going on. and with my mouth, combined with others that i know, should be a higher percentage than most.stahrgazer wrote:I dislike flaming. I no longer play on this site because of flaming. BUT. The flaming that bothered me wasn't the flaming in flame wars, it was the nastiness and flaming I saw in game chats, flaming that went unwarned.
Protests about it in the C&A forum didn't get the "mild warning" the RULES suggested they'd start with; instead, protests got, "use foelist."
Foelist would prevent you from hearing from a nasty again, but didn't do a damned thing to suggest that others refrain in future. "Future" happened again and again, and I got plumb tired of it. I'm only checking into CC now to respond to pm's and check status on the tourney I'd been running, and a friend happened to mention that "Flame Wars" was gone, as if that made a difference.
I said in an earlier, posts Flame Wars wasn't the problem; like someone else said, those who did not want to visit Flame Wars didn't have to. Because the forum wasn't the problem, eliminating that forum is like giving a thimbleful of water to a dude dying of thirst in the desert: doesn't fix the problem. It can make whoever brought the thimble slap himself on the back in congratulations for being so kind as to address the problem, but it doesn't fix "flaming" for those who don't want to see it.
The problem with flaming on CC is that it's tolerated in game chat. "Damn dice" is a curse that I may not like (even if I've said it myself from time to time). "f*ck these dice!" may be even more abhorrent. I'd still say those are not flames. "f*ck you retard" over a game move someone didn't like, is a little closer to the types of things this site allows in gamechats that, in my opinion, it shouldn't.
I could care less whether Flame Wars exists or doesn't exist, but to claim that Flame Wars caused problems in other areas is.. well.. if I give my real opinion on what that is, I'd be flaming the new admin.

Well said (er, well typed). In one of my first games I was called an idiot, a retard, and an offensive term for homosexual. I believe this is more commonplace that Ron suggests, and is a much bigger problem that the Flame Wars forum.stahrgazer wrote:I dislike flaming. I no longer play on this site because of flaming. BUT. Why should someone who just wants to play a fun game have to be subject to that sort of nastiness? Why should the person who expresses concern about it be subject to even more of the nasty harassment from others? Why is it "the listener's" fault when someone spews nastiness?ronc8649 wrote:

100 out of 5110 games isnt bad. why do you even entertain what someone would say to you in game chat? just foe them. and for the 100 games out of 5000. i like my odds.

To boil this down, I have been harrassed/flamed in game chat many times. I have never been harrassed/flamed in game chat by someone who is a Flame Wars Forum regular.stahrgazer wrote:Why should someone who just wants to play a fun game have to be subject to that sort of nastiness? "There's nothing you can do about what I just said in chat so go f*** yourself," is a pretty typical response; and since mods allow the behavior with no warnings, vacations, or bans, the nasty behavior is reinforced to thrive and flourish.
I don't agree that one instance of anything should cause a ban. I do believe that a complaint on something should cause the spewer to be given a warning by the mods here, unilaterally, regardless if the dude's a pal of the mod or not; regardless if the comment bothered the mod or not. Enough warnings then should be a vacation, and enough vacations should warrant a ban.
I don't see the chat-flaming problem as being "spillover from flame wars." The problem is, those who want to be nasty in chat (game, social, other forums) happen to KNOW nothing will be done about their behavior.
You don't teach a dog to stop shitting on the couch by continuing to invite him up; and you can't get rid of the stench if you just let it lie there but throw a towel over it. Foelist is a way the listener can stop inviting the dog onto the couch, but official CC action is required to clean up the doggie-do to get rid of the stench and train the dog to do his stinky business OUTside. "Flame Wars" was like the backyard: who cares how often the dogshit piled up out there?
It's a logic argument. As I've indicated in a number of previous posts on this thread, to trash Flame Wars because you want to curb flaming outside of Flame Wars does nothing to curb flaming outside of Flame Wars. This is my point.GENERAL STONEHAM wrote:Oh my, what the heck. Are we going to police the chat in games?
Guys and gals, we're all basically anonymous, how can anyone be personally insulted? If you got a thin skin like today's moderators, just close your eyes and count to ten. OR, insult the moron back, unless of course it's deserved.

Flaming is now disallowed completely on this site.
This is an excellent decision, and the vast majority of CC members back it wholeheartedly.
THANK YOU, CC Administration!

yes. many private enterprises protect their customers against being verbally abused as they were commonly in flame wars. In reality most wouldnt have allowed it for so long.GENERAL STONEHAM wrote:YES, we know that this "site" is a private enterprise and you guys can do what you want, including using "bully methods," to win any argument against FLAME WARS.
