They have been good since the late 1980's, when they had Emmitt Smith and then Steve Spurrier.
Florida had a championship in the 90s. before the late 80s no they weren't very good which part of the reason why despite the fact they've beaten Georgia practically every year since the early 90s Georgia still has the series lead all time. Tennessee is actually more of the traditional power house in the SEC East at least they are ahead of the rest of the SEC (with the possible exception of Alabama who may have passed them in the last couple years) in all time wins and have never had a 12 game season worse than 5-7. You are right about Alabama they are the biggest name in powerhouses down in the southeast.

The Beavers certainly had their opportunities and were still in it midway through the Fourth Quarter before the Ducks finally took control. That pass interference was huge... if the defender turns to find the under thrown pass everything might have been different with a potential interception instead of a first down extending the drive for an Oregon touchdown.
Meanwhile... Auburn is playing like their Number One ranking today.
Florida Gators - 8 SEC Championships and 3 National Titles (96, 06 and 08)
I think oregon has a really good shot considering the auburn offense revolves so much around cam newton. That makes it a bit easier to game plan against that team.

Despite what rabid Notre Dame fans would have you believe Paul "Bear" Bryant won more National Championships than any other coach. The Bear was bigger in Alabama than Tom Osborne is/was in Nebraska and if you just started following college football in the 80's you would think that is a bat shit insane statement, but it is not. Ask your fathers. At the time of his retirement Bear Bryant would've easily beat anyone short of Jesus in an election for public office in Alabama. It is physically impossible to over state how popular that man was in Alabama.

Thanks for the rant.... I'm not sure what this has to do with anything but if it gets it off your chest so be it.

One of Minnesota's championships should have gone to Missouri since the win by Kansas in 1960 was vacated due to an ineligible player. Of course, they didn't go back and change any of the championships.

U Conn is going to a BCS bowl game. How can you justify an 8-4 team in the orange bowl?
So do my father, and two uncles who are Notre Dame alums...they live in their own reality. Knute Rockne was NOT Bear Bryant, not even close, and neither was Frank Leahy, for those 5% of Notre Dame fans that rate him higher. Its not like I even have a dog in that fight, its just that the facts don't lie.
BSU moves to MWC next year, just in time to catch TCU's (and Utah's?) last season there. With TCU, Utah, and BYU moving out of MWC, BSU's move no longer looks so good.
BSU has pretty much dominated the WAC, so even with TCU, Utah, and BYU leaving it's better then what they have now. The biggest thing is they are losing ESPN coverage. Being from Boise I still get to watch the games but the rest of the fans will have a much harder time. There's the money that is lost from the TV deal also.
Boise turned down the "mac and cheese" bowl and is now going the Vegas. The two reasons for this were not wanting to play a unranked opponent (Boston College) and wanting to finish the season before the end of the year. I'll tell you the wind is officially gone from Boise's sail. I thought they might bounce back at least as a team but they are struggling. Kyle Brotzman shanked another easy one on Saturday. All I can say is suck it up buttercup and get on with life. They are not the first team to blow it and won't be the last. They could whip Utah by 100 points and wouldn't prove anything.
I know I am going to get off topic here, but I love college football and I have supported the BCS to an extent at different points in times. I can see the pros and cons to it and while I don't think it is a terrible system, I don't see how anyone can think a playoff is a bad idea in college football.
It is absolutely ridiculous that UConn is in a BCS bowl this year playing my beloved Sooners.
Many argue that the regular season loses interest if you have a playoff but that is absolutely not true. If you have an 8 team playoff and the rule is the top 8 teams in the final poll are in the playoff then the regular season will be NO DIFFERENT than it is right now. Typically every team in the top 8 is only a 1 loss team (rarely a 2 loss team) so the importance at the end of the season to win and stay in the playoffs is still there just like teams are trying to win and maintain their BCS bowl or national championship right now.
