I know this is "Americans and English" thread so I hate to barge in, however, in point of correction:

Winston Churchill was one of the greatest war criminals of the 20th century.

The Nuremberg rope would have been much better spent on that child murdering, fat blobs neck than Gen. Jodl.

Your suggestion to the contrary is so completely at-odds with any notion of respectable history that I can't even compose myself enough to enunciate a reply! (Saxi speechless?! :o It just happened ...)

Let me be the first Englishman to say... HOW DARE YOU!!!!!

Winston Churchill Was the best Prime Minister under the circumstances, his wondrous speeches kept morale up "We shall fight them on the beaches" and he had the full loyalty of his army and his people throughout the war.

True he was not the right choice for rebuilding the country but as a wartime prime minister he was better than anyone who could have been in his position would have done.

I am ashamed saxi...

Churchill had an excellent wartime propaganda machine and used his unlimited censorship power to such an efficient degree that his cult-of-personality survives in-tact to this day.

He gleefully plotted the murder of 75,000 children, cheerfully ordering the RAF to continue unrestricted fire-bombing of civilian targets even despite pleas from the Air Staff to allow them to stop, that the war was won and there was no more military or industrial infrastructure to hit.

Don't even get me started.

If Saxi were a theist I would be assured that round mound of sound is turning on Satan's spit roast in hell right now. He's one of many reasons - but the top of the list - why Britons are not and will never be Europeans. Just neighborhood trash that have set-up camp and no one can move out.

I honestly felt a little vomit enter my mouth when I read jimboston's original message. Churchill is only a few rungs down the ladder from Hitler in the pantheon of absolutely vile wickedness.

I'm going to permanently step-out of this thread now as I surely would say something I regret if confronted with a demonstration of the mind-wiped Churchill cheerleading squad. Goodnight -

I wonder what would have happened if England hadn't had held out the nazi's for those years giving the americans and british (+canadians and french) to launch an attack back which resulted in the end of the war?

Difficult Question eh? ;)

Looks Behind. Purple Shit? Wow...

Of course it wasn't single-handedly. If it wasn't for all those in the forces, especially the hurricane and fighter pilots then Britain would be a german speaking country today for sure...

EDITED - following is the thing I was afraid I'd say that I'd regret saying. Mark this as my - real, this time - permanent departure from this specific thread. The Churchill question is one which Saxi is too passionate about and threatens his ability to act in a mature way.

The United Kingdom has been one of the greatest forces for Evil of which the mind of man has ever conceived.

Following the French Revolution it was the United Kingdom that rallied the absolute monarchs of Europe to launch an unprovoked assault on France, leading to 15 years of war and millions dead. Had the UK stayed off the continent, France would have been able to find victory in her self-defense action, the Franco-Prussian War would have never happened sixty years later, ergo, WWI would have never happened, ergo, WWII would have never happened.

Then they got a second chance in WWI. Though the United Kingdom was handily defeating Germany and Austria they rejected multiple peace offers from the Hohenzollern and Hapsburg families while cajoling the United States into a war in which it was totally disinterested so that they could more handily defeat the central powers all for the benefit of a big payday - a cheque written on the dead hides of two million more Germans and Austrians than needed to die, plus half-a-million Americans and countless of their own countrymen. Their success pushed central Europe into economic depravity in the inter-war years, leading to the rise of the Nazi cult and WWII.
This pattern repeats every 50 years.

The United Kingdom is a criminal state and one of the greatest threats to world stability ever. Fortunately it was neutered and turned into a client-nation following their colony-making adventure in Suez so as to never unleash their savage bloodlust on the world again.

Really. It's a sick, sick, sick, country. It's a nation that suffers from a shared psychotic disorder.

The only hope the EU has to survive is to kick the UK out. It's a cancer on the ass of Europe. Saxi is probably one of the unlikeliest supporters of Nigel Farage and his clique.

Before I left for the lodge Friday afternoon I was surfing on the Fidonet and found this old photo from the mid 70's of DDR State Chairman Erich Honecker and Kim Il-Sung when the Korean leader visited the chambers of the Volkshammer in the democratic sector of Berlin. Those were better times. The banner in the back, loosely (very loosely) translates to "DDR & DPRK = Best Friends Forever!"

This is a common misconception. The Puritans were the prudes (they did "bundle", but that was supposed to be a strictly platonic deal ;) ) The Pilgrams were most definitely not.

That said, it did seem that the prudes took over after a bit.

Here are my votes: (subject to change with new suggestions).

1. English is a great language (but the other side have fucked it up) and sure speaks it with a strange accent.
2. CC dice are random
3. Having once ruled the world, our inherent superiority is evident (note -- sarcasm ;) )
4. Football is the greatest sport.
5. Just about any other countries' cusine is superior ... (which is why we both adopt them all as our own... lol )
6. King Arthur is a good fireside tale.
7. Monty Python is funny, so is Steve Martin.
8.They brought a "few" good bands into this world. But, the U.S. is no slaggard when it comes to individual musicians, either.
9. That Shakespeare guy, once you get past the funny lingo, wrote some nice plays.
10. France is a nation lacking in intestinal fortitude.

Here are my votes
  1. English is a great language even though the Normans massively corrupted it.
  2. CC dice don’t speak English.
  3. The sun never sets on the English language.
  4. There is nothing wrong with “our” cuisine; you just don’t know where to look for it.
  5. Our dead rulers make great mythic legends.
  6. Comedy, by its very nature is funny.
  7. Our best musicians are generally forgotten by us.
  8. We have some great writers of that language that got massively corrupted by those Normans.
  9. Canada isn’t worth invading; let’s roll CC dice to see who gets it.
  10. The French are amazing; all their children speak French at such an early age!
