24 is the only show I'll actually tape if I'm going to miss it. I have to watch that show, it's my favorite tv show ever. And in my opinion, it just keeps getting better.

House is my second favorite. Really good, and I identify with Dr. House (not the 'brilliant doctor' part, but the 'idiot-jerk' part)

Scrubs is something I've just been turned on to... really funny. Dr. Cox and the Janitor are two of my favorite tv characters.

Also, since I live in Detroit I get to watch CBC, so I'm also a fan of Hockey Night in Canada. Grapes is the greatest!!! That, and every single Red Wings game broadcast on either FSN or Fox 2. :D

TV shows currently on that I watch more or less consistently:

Battlestar Galactica, Lost, The Sarah Silverman Program, The News Hour with Jim Lehrer, Ugly Betty (and before it I watched La fea mas bella (still on and maybe better than Ugly Betty) AND Betty la fea!), um, that's all.

I also watch on DVD Star Treks, Firefly, Carnivale, Babylon 5, and the Sopranos (just started)

I was drinking in Cardiff with Larry Love, the guy who sings the theme tune from the Sopranos, just before christmas. He was challenging everyone in the pub to a Johnny Cash sound-a-like sing song. Sound bloke, but a mad bastard.

Needless to say, Larry won the contest. God knows how much he smokes to get a voice like that.

I really like American TV. American films are usually crap these days, but American TV is great, or at least, the best of it is. Especially HBO's stuff - Sopranos, The Wire, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Band of Brothers (though that's part BBC, I think.)

At some point in the next month, I'm going to buy another boxset, but I haven't made my mind up whether to get Deadwood season 1, The Wire season 2, or Carnivale season 1.

Why do the best American films assume the average viewer has the IQ of a frog, while the best American TV assumes the average viewer has the IQ of a doctoral candidate?

Excellent story. You should have put that in the "notable things done" thread.

When you say BSG, do you meen the new series, classic, or both. O and I like:
Sopranoes
Star Trek
South Park
Futurama
Mythbusters
and I've been watching the Dresden Files lately, and I don't think it half bad.

For a movie, the theory might be if you put in a ton of explosions, violence, nudity, you can get a ton of people to go to the theater once to watch it, and you'll get those who don't go to rent it once. All they have to do is get you to see it once.

TV shows have to hook you. They want you to keep coming back week after week. If the average TV show were as good as the average movie, there might be more soccer fans in the USA. But seriously, the point is viewership, and each media is aimed at something different.
