So if I find a map that most others hasn't played and invite all those high rankers who r smart players and have the choice to decline, should I be punished?

Do we have to strt map ranking our opponents everytime we want to join a game to make sure they are competent and experienced on our favorite maps?

I understand he's searching for these circumstances, but I feel it opens a can of worms. Players of decent rank and experience who are knowledgable of how points work diff settings and maps etc (aka non low rank and non new players) who have the ability to say no should be fair game to any invite.

I'm sorry but this is kinda silly.
Are we not allowed to join a game someone else creates when we know they've never played it or won't do well??? I've invited RL friends to a game that I didn't think they would do well on for practise while they had no / limited experience on it.

Isn't that what we all do? Look for games we think we can win. He's not inviting low rankers and he's talking to them and as a capt and a lt for sure should have the sense to look at his prior games or at least know / look at the map before hand.

Sorry - no matter what you think of GLG I don't see much basis for punishment here. And by punishing him I think A) now we r just inventing rules and B) this sets a dangerous predicent for anyone who invites anybody to a game that they previously didn't know.

At some point the game creator needs to take some personal F'ing responsibility to look at the guy asking for a "quick game" and refusing to play any map other than that with certain settings.

If I as a major where in chat and someone I didn't know very well (GLG) said "hey want a quick game" first thing I'd do is map rank / search him on those specific settings he's requesting.

Sorry, not going to join this witch hunt. I understand the ? Marks and privates etc but this is silly.

+1 I was one of the people that tried very hard to get the rule change about farming low ranked players because they didnt know what was going on.

This is different these are players that should have known better than to walk into these games blind.

My thoughts are they knew how many points they could gain by a lucky win on a map they didnt know and went for it.

Icepack said it,how many of us look for games and players you know you dont stand a chance of beating. Uh none of us do.

From this standpoint those players lost,but should have known better,they have the tools to check him out and if they didnt that is their fault.

He may have talked them into setting up the games but prior to doing so they had the opportunity to decline or not set the games up.

Nothing at all. My main point is you can't punish something that isn't against the rule. If this is "unethical" change the written rule, then if he continues to do so punish him. But until it's said that a major who's inexperienced on a particular map can't be played en masse cuz they are inexperienced on a specific map (a far cry from the original farming rule of "only ? Marks" (players with less than 5 games) then this isn't against the rules.

Our goal ought to be to provide a fun place to play, with fair games and fair players.

GLG is a great player. Even if he stopped playing these games and just stuck to team play, he'd do fine on the site. He has rights, as well, the right to enjoy his time here on the site, and I fully support that, but his right to a good time shouldn't mean that other players get hustled for their lunch money.

Not at all. If you play a wide variety of maps, settings, scenarios, and players, then it's understood that some of the time you will catch someone in a situation where they have no clue, just as other times it will happen to you. It all balances out.

It only becomes abuse of the system when you focus exclusively on the first situation, and refuse to join any games that are not guaranteed wins. If GLG played fair and sometimes accepted challenges from people who have at least a chance of beating him, these complaints would not be made.

The difference here mac is, the kids have a chance and tools to look up GLG and know he is a hustler on this map,with these settings.

They gambled with the chance to get alot of points and lost. If these were ? and cooks I would be hollering to beat the band,they are not,lesson learned. Know thine enemy.

Macbone - I agree. But if those billiard players have the ability to look at his history at billiards and see what was up and they still joined - its their own fault for losing their lunch money.

Dukasaur - he plays other maps / team games. But for this specific map and ranks / experience aren't against the warning or written rule. If people want it changed sure fine go ahead I'll even support it.

But currently it's not against te rules to play experienced players of decent ranks with inexperience on one map that you excel at and being picky about who you play it vs isn't against the rules and shouldn't be punished.

Do you not think the exclusive use of Live Chat to entice his opponents is a telling sign? Chances are the players in there are new to chat and probably inexperienced enough to not have the time or nous to do a check on GLG (who will undoubtedly have already checked their game history to make sure they haven't played City Mogul before he gets them into a private chat room) while he talks them into setting up a game that conforms to his requirements. And of the 5 or 6 who have recently fallen prey to this tactic how many countless others do you suppose have been troubled by it and had the sense to decline (or set up a different game which GLG then declines)?

He hangs around in chat looking for easy targets. To me that is intrinsically wrong and I'm sure others feel the same way. If you think he's game to play higher rankers (or anyone for that matter) then why not use the Callouts forum like everyone else? There he can say "Hey, set up a game with these settings and invite me and I'll consider it" and the reader has the opportunity to do some background check if he so wishes. Instead GLG chooses a method that doesn't afford the opponent a great deal of time to do such a check and his use of live chat is akin to the very methods used by confidence tricksters the world over.

Sorry but setting up a game via live chat doesn't scream "wrong" to me. In fact they have a callout area for that entire purpose. If he uses a different channel or LC again...based on rank and previous experience with games (just not that map) they should be sensible enough to know they don't have to play.

I suspect like jgordon said, they want a chance at those big points and join. If they do no research it's their fault. If they do research and still choose to join...again the fault is theirs. If they don't like it after the fact they shouldn't have joined to begin with.

A noob private or newer llayer with little game experience or something I'll support ur argument 100% CoF. But Sarg, up to captain? Come on...these guys know what they are doing and if they don't it's thee own fault. The farming rule used to protect guys up to their 5th game. This goes WAY beyond that.

Again if they don't decline or do research @ that level of game play it their own fault.

This is actually easier than what he was doing before...

If you join a freestyle game you pretty much automatically go first...

On city mogul, if you go first you win :0)

Kudos for finding an even simpler way to get free points from people that don't realize what you're doing until its too late....

p.s. If anyone would like to play a 1vs1 freestyle mogul with me i will accept any challenger regardless of rank... you set it up, give me the password, and i'll join at my leasure and we'll see how that works out for ya

First two names I picked off his recent wall invites. Is it just a coincidence that he is targeting players who have made 0 posts and are thus probably completely unaware of the history of the guy as they don't interact in the forums?

-you HAVE to KNOW the settings in order to set up the game. HE set up the games, HE knew the settings he was going to use
-he wasn't EXPERIENCED with the settings is your point.. .NOT that he didn't KNOW what they were

On top he is promising them that he will teach them the map in speed game, and usually they end up only losing points.

WHOAH nellie. It's been a LONG time before I "promised to teach" ANYBODY. Back then was when I was freemium and couldn't crate games or play speed games. to Bring this aspect from 2-3 yrs ago is totally wrong. Now I HAVE offered to EXPLAIN a few things, but a HUGE difference between TEACHING and explaining, etc.

Why explain after if you are supposedly "helping" these players, why not give them a fighting a chance and give them pointers before, if you are not merely playing them to collect easy points.

1) "doesn't seem very pleased" is a huge jump from DISPLEASED or MAD. as a matter of fact YOUR OWN QUOTE showed "Sotan: ok" when I said I'd explain AFTER the game. OK sure looks more like PLEASE than "DOESN'T SEEM PLEASED"

2) I never said I was helping any or all opponents. I do SOMETIMES and don't other times - usually depends on if they ask, need, or mostly are decent not-negative people.

3) "why not give them a fighting chance"? wow, I have to give up ~9:1 advantage on points, so I should HELP them beat me? If points were a LEVEL playing field, maybe. even IF even points, should I HELP a player BEAT ME? sounds like shades of Losing On Purpose.

1) The "survey" was biased, hugely negative and from what I remember only 11 players out of 1600 opponents replied negatively. None of the non-negative respondents info was published. 11 of 12 or 11 of 20 is PLENTY, 11 of 1600 is far from PLENTY.

2) 11 people AGREEING to a negative inquisition sure sounds immaterial. In a prior Thread I posted TWENTY (20) RECENT favorable responses (out of 21) THANKING me and appreciating the games. Why was THAT ignored?

3) "hustled for lunch money":
A-I don't think too many opponents missed a meal
B-taking lunch money implies leaving them penniless for lunch. 5-7 pts out of 900-1500 is far from MOST of their "lunch money"

As I have said glg these players should know better and their fault for playing you,but you know as well as everyone else thier chance of winning is lol real damn low.

If you convince someone in chat to play you with your settings,which is evident by the one player outright telling you he doesnt know the map and settings,you should be player enough to explain right then what your advantage is.
