People still watch these shows? Each year the contestants get worse and worse, you know why? Because each group that goes onto the show are the people that didn't get in the year before.

In the Early 1990's, I was in a popular local acid funk band in Las Vegas. Our downfall was our lead guitarist was also our singer. The rest of the band wanted a lead singer so we put up flyers in all the music stores. Every singer that tried out for the position, dressed and acted like they were the best singer on the planet. We tried out 1 or 2 a week and 50 % never got passed a cup of coffee. The other were all terrible. Every single one. 97% of all the people that think they can sing can't.

In 6 years, we tried out at least 500 people in our studio. We only came across maybe 3 or 4 decent singers.

So my point. American idol. I watch it because, I relate to the process.

I hate the songs. I'm only in it for the losers. The first part of the season is golden, full of losers that believe they are superstars. It makes me laugh and reminds me of each loser that tried out for my band.
